Delight in the ‘Magic’ and ‘Wonder’ of the Holidays
From the happy haunts of Halloween through the revelry of the New Year, guests will discover an extra dose of pixie dust aboard Disney Cruise Line this holiday season. From traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts to “snowflake” sightings and seasonal caroling, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will sparkle with the joy of the holiday season.
The festivities begin on the October 27 and 28 sailings, where guests can take part in some Halloween fun. Children will enjoy a trick-or-treat trail that culminates in a dance party on the top deck and special costume parties in each of the youth activity areas. For adults, there’s a dance party and costume contest with prizes for costume categories such as best group, most original and most Disney. With Halloween decorations throughout the ship and scary – as well as not-so-scary – movies playing in various venues, children of all ages will enjoy a uniquely Disney twist on this autumn tradition.
Then, beginning in late November, the spirit of the season will surround cruise guests from the moment they arrive at Port Canaveral, Florida. Disney characters decked out in their finest holiday attire will welcome guests to the lavishly decorated private cruise terminal. Onboard, the festivities continue with special themed activities, decorations, and even a transformed winter wonderland on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
On Thanksgiving Day, guests will delight in a traditional Thanksgiving feast complete with roast turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings. After enjoying as much as they care to eat, guests can relax in a deck chair or partake in some of the many shipboard activities such as themed craft projects for the children. To top off the festivities, Mickey and Minnie will don their Thanksgiving costumes.
After Thanksgiving, guests will discover continued holiday cheer along with:
-- A nearly three-deck-tall tree festooned with decorations in the atrium lobby, where “snow” flurries fall and a tree-lighting ceremony occurs.
-- A Christmas Day visit from Santa Goofy, with surprises for all the kids.
-- International holiday caroling by crew members from around the globe (exclusively on the Christmas cruises).
-- Special family time for designing and decorating gingerbread houses.
-- A reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by Mrs. Claus.
-- Traditional holiday feasts in Disney’s three themed dining rooms (Christmas cruises only).
-- Multiple faith and interdenominational holiday services (Christmas and Hanukkah cruises only).
-- A ship-wide party to ring in 2008 and a New Year’s Day tailgate party.
The holiday fun even extends to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. When the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder arrive at the sandy Bahamian isle just after Thanksgiving, the island will be transformed into a Magical Wonderland – a “snowy” holiday hideaway. “Snow” flurries will fall like magic, Christmas trees will glow and carolers will croon. Mr. and Mrs. Snowman, wearing shell noses and tropical attire, will greet guests with a sleigh full of presents. The tram that transports guests across the 1,000-acre island will be reindeer themed, complete with antlers and tail. At the beach, kids can dive into holiday-themed activities that include making candy cane reindeer, paper plate angels and snowflake mobiles.
The festivities begin on the Disney Magic on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise departing on November 24, and on a special four-night Bahamian cruise leaving November 21. Guests wishing to spend the Christmas holiday onboard Disney Cruise Line can enjoy a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise beginning December 22, or a four-night Bahamian cruise departing December 23.

Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line Arrives In Europe For Mediterranean Cruises

The Disney Magic cruise ship is now offering for the first time new ten- and 11-night itineraries in the Mediterranean. The 2,700-passenger ship will be homeported at the Port of Barcelona this summer. These cruises provide families with a unique and hassle-free way to explore world-famous cities such as Rome, Florence, Naples, Cannes and Barcelona.
Continuing to offer a diverse array of itineraries, for the summer of 2008, Disney Cruise Line will reposition the Disney Magic to the West Coast for seven-night cruise vacations to the Mexican Riviera. Beginning May 25, 2008, the Disney Magic will sail 12-consecutive cruises from the Port of Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.
Disney Cruise Line guests sailing in the Mediterranean will find several new surprises including a brand new stage spectacular at the Walt Disney Theatre, a Mediterranean-themed deck party, European-themed activities for children and family-friendly shore excursions at ports of call. To prepare for the journey, for the first time ever, iPod users can find Mediterranean themed content--port information, travel tips and language guides--plus movies and TV shows in a special travel entertainment store created exclusively by iTunes for Disney Cruise Line.
Lavish entertainment is a Disney Cruise Line hallmark, and two notable additions were developed specifically for the Mediterranean sailings. Mickey Mouse’s dreams come to life in When Mickey Dreams, a musical spectacle guided by a cast of Cirque-like “dream seekers” at the Walt Disney Theatre. The show’s unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills.
Youth counselors, who are expertly skilled at keeping children of any age engaged and entertained, will weave the cultures of the ship’s destinations into many of the children’s activities. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including Crêpe-making, puppet-crafting, pizza-baking and mosaic tile-making.
Disney Cruise Line established the family market within the cruise industry when the business launched in 1998. The first two ships were purpose built for families to reconnect and recharge while creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime. From a theater featuring live musical spectaculars to a luxurious spa for adults and nearly an entire deck dedicated to children’s activities, the ships truly offer something for everyone.
Limited availability remains for select Mediterranean cruises. Guests can book Disney Cruise Line’s next adventure, a special summer season on the West Coast in 2008 with seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera, or a magical three-, four- or seven-night cruise vacation to the Bahamas and Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Fla., by calling 888/DCL-2500, visiting www.disneycruise.com or contacting their travel agent.

New Entertainment On Disney Cruise Line Ships Takes A Bow
Snow falls in Walt Disney Theatre. Lasers generate sparkling pixie-dust trails. New Disney character performers take a bow. And the deck-party fun ramps up several notches. It’s part of a flurry of onboard fun that will debut this spring on both Disney Cruise Line ships.
One of the most popular, long-running shows on both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, “Disney Dreams,” will display new dazzle as “Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic” with elaborately enhanced special effects, animation and new scenic elements. As a bonus, two beloved character cast members – Timon and Pumbaa of Disney’s classic film “The Lion King” – make their first-ever appearance on a Disney Cruise Line ship. The revitalized show will debut on the Disney Wonder March 21, 2007, and will be unveiled on the Disney Magic just in time for the ship’s inaugural season in the Mediterranean this May.
At the opulent Walt Disney Theatre, the enhanced “Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic,” tells the story of a young girl who learns about the power of dreams. New laser effects allow Tinkerbell to “sprinkle” the theater with sparkling pixie-dust trails, and fresh animated video footage brings the show to life like never before. During a scene from the classic film “Beauty and the Beast,” “snow” literally falls upon the audience. When Cinderella takes the stage, special pyrotechnic effects add glitter to her sartorial transformation from rags to ball gown. And Timon and Pumbaa appear for a musical medley of “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” and “Hakuna Matata” from “The Lion King.”
Additional musical numbers during the 55-minute performance include: “You Can Fly!” “A Whole New World,” “Prince Ali,” “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” “So This Is Love,” “Part of Your World,” “Under the Sea” and “Beauty and the Beast.” (Featured on both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder). “We’re committed to refreshing onboard entertainment and adding new theatrical surprises for our guests,” says Jim Urry, director of entertainment for Disney Cruise Line. “Fans of our original ‘Disney Dreams’ show will be blown away by the enhancements.”
Also beginning this summer, guests on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will find a greatly enhanced Sail-Away Party, featuring new music, interactive dances and appearances by the world-famous Disney characters on the upper decks. Taking full advantage of the Ariel Vision jumbo screens recently added to both ships, new visual elements are planned for the show and guests attending the party may find themselves dancing on the “big screen.” The party culminates with the sounding of the signature Disney Cruise Line “When You Wish Upon a Star” horn, signaling the official start of the ultimate cruise vacation.
A leader in the family cruise segment, Disney Cruise Line offers three-, four- and seven-night itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Seven-Night Land & Sea vacation packages that include a stay at Walt Disney World Resort are also available. All That Glitters is Holiday Magic Aboard Disney Cruise Ships
Holiday magic will deck the halls and add sparkle to the decks for guests who sail with Disney Cruise Line beginning this Thanksgiving and continuing through to the New Year. Both Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will spread an abundance of holiday cheer, from traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts to “snowflake” sightings and seasonal caroling.
A special ten-night Holiday Caribbean Cruise is planned for Disney Magic from December 16 through December 26. The Eastern/Southern Caribbean cruise will call at ports not typically on the Disney Magic cruise itinerary, including St. Lucia and Antigua.
The spirit of the season will surround cruise guests from the moment they arrive at Port Canaveral, Fla. Disney characters decked out in their finest holiday attire will welcome guests to the lavishly decorated private cruise terminal. During holiday sailings, guests will discover:
A nearly three-deck-tall tree festooned with decorations in the atrium lobby, where “snow” flurries fall and a tree-lighting ceremony occurs; a Christmas Day visit from Santa Goofy, with surprises for all the kids; international holiday caroling by crew members from around the globe (exclusively on the Christmas cruise); and special family time for designing and decorating gingerbread houses.
There are also traditional holiday feasts in Disney’s three themed dining rooms (Christmas cruise only) as well as multiple faith and interdenominational holiday services (Christmas and Hanukkah cruise only).
On New Year’s Eve, a ship-wide party to ring in 2007 and a New Year’s Day tailgate party.
During the Thanksgiving holiday, Disney Magic embarks on a special Western Caribbean journey, during which the ship sails twice to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The seven-night voyage departs November 18, arriving first at Castaway Cay for the usual Disney Cruise Line visit. Thanksgiving festivities complete with Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimmings, craft activities with a focus on pilgrim hats and turkeys, and visits by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dressed in Thanksgiving costumes.
When the ship returns the day after Thanksgiving, the island will be transformed into a Magical Wonderland, where the sandy Bahamian isle becomes a “snowy” holiday hideaway. A four-night Disney Wonder cruise stops at Castaway Cay on Thanksgiving Day.
At the beach, families can learn the art of sand sculpting, and kids can dive into holiday-themed activities that include making candy cane reindeer, paper plate angels and snowflake-mobiles.
The Disney Magic 10-Night Holiday Caribbean Cruise departs Dec. 16, with visits to Key West, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Thomas/St. John and Castaway Cay. The Disney Wonder four-night Christmas cruise departs Dec. 24, with visits to Nassau and Castaway Cay.

Cruise Line vacation will discover a 175-foot ghost ship anchored
at Castaway Cay. The ship is the Flying Dutchman, which made
its silver screen debut on July 7 in Disney’s Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. The Flying Dutchman’s commander
is the legendary Davy Jones, who serves as nemesis to the infamous
pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, in the upcoming film. “The Pirates
of the Caribbean movie franchise is extremely popular, and having
the Flying Dutchman ship at Castaway Cay is something truly
unique that only Disney Cruise Line could offer guests,” said
Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin.
The intricate film prop is unlike any other
pirate ship – with ragged sails and a barnacle-encrusted bow,
the ship looks like it was raised off the ocean floor to haunt
the open seas for eternity. The Flying Dutchman will provide
a scenic photo backdrop, and guests renting boats on the island
will be able to get an up-close look at the ghost ship.
While visiting Castaway Cay, guests should
also be on the lookout for the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow.
With the Flying Dutchman lurking just off the shore, the eccentric
captain may be spotted around the island. Guests are encouraged
to approach the hero and hear his tales about adventure on the
high seas. The charming pirate graciously accepts requests for
portraits and autographs—if guests can manage to track him down.
The addition of the Flying Dutchman to Castaway
Cay will enhance what already is a highlight of a Disney Cruise
Line vacation. Starting this summer, the Disney Magic will embark
on seven-night alternate western Caribbean itineraries with
two stops at Castaway Cay. The special itinerary sails every
fourth week, through December 9, 2006, and will also include
two days at sea and stops at Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Children Rate First On Summer Cruises
On Regent’s ‘Paul Gauguin”
Fun-filled, life-enriching experiences await
children aged nine to 15 aboard the Paul Gauguin’s® nine
Ambassadors of the Environment voyages this June 10 – August
23. The exclusive program provides youngsters a rare opportunity
to learn about the rich cultural heritage and natural wonders
of French Polynesia with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures
Society.
The acclaimed Ambassadors of the Environment
program is available on the luxurious 330-guest Paul Gauguin’s
June 10, 21, July 1, 12, 22, 29, August 5, 12, and 23 sailings.
Seven-night voyages sail roundtrip from Papeete, Tahiti, calling
at the idyllic islands of Raiatea, Tahaa, Motu Mahana (Regent
Seven Seas’® private island), Bora Bora and Moorea. Both the
10- and 11-night voyages feature an onboard overnight in Rangiroa
– one of world’s most spectacular marine environments, whose
lagoon is large enough to fit the island of Tahiti inside it
– with the 10-night sailings also calling at Huahine and the
11-night cruises reaching the distant Marquesas Islands, calling
at Nuku Hiva and Hiva Oa (where post-impressionist Paul Gauguin
is buried).
Designed to educate via direct experiences,
the Ambassadors of the Environment program takes young cruise
guests on lively, interactive journeys involving island excursions,
expedition film presentations, special dinners with Les Gauguines
(the ship’s Tahitian hostesses), games and other activities.
Focusing on marine and island ecosystems, emphasizing the critical
importance of coral reefs, sustainable lifestyles and traditional
Polynesian culture, the program’s expert naturalists bring French
Polynesia to life as a natural playground and living laboratory
where kids can learn and grow, explore their own interests and
curiosities, and be inspired to become good citizens of the
“spaceship earth.”
On their mission to become Ambassadors of
the Environment, the children visit vanilla and black pearl
farms, and participate in a turtle rescue. They enjoy private
snorkeling tours at magnificent dive sites, swimming with black-tip
sharks and spotted eagle rays. During a dolphin expedition the
group learns about and watches spinner dolphins at play in the
ocean. Renowned archaeologist Mark Eddowes guides the kids
around Moorea, showcasing the island’s culture, flora and fauna.
A forest hike teaches about the history of the Polynesian people
with a visit to a marae, an ancient stone temple. And native
islanders help the youngsters make traditional pareos, while
a local children’s outrigger canoe club takes the Ambassadors
paddling out into the clear blue lagoons.
December Cruises
response to popular demand, the “Ambassadors
of the Environment” program will be featured for the first year
ever on the Paul Gauguin’s Christmas and New Year’s cruises.
The nine-night December 20 and 29 voyages will feature one onboard
overnight each in Bora Bora (novelist James Michener’s model
for the fictional Bali Hai) and Moorea (the inspiration for
Herman Melville’s novel Omoo), as well as calls in Raiatea (regarded
as the heart of Tahitian culture), Huahine (one of the most
picturesque and geographically diverse of the Society Islands),
and Tahaa/Motu Mahana.
Parents may join their children on select
aspects of the program on a space available basis (paying the
standard excursion rate).
The Paul Gauguin is an intimate vessel that
boasts spacious, ocean view accommodations (over 50 percent
with private balconies), ideal for sailing the crystal waters
of French Polynesia. She boasts her own retractable water sports
platform and offers complimentary kayaking, water-skiing and
windsurfing. Optional PADI certification and full scuba dive
programs are available. Nightly entertainment includes performances
by local dance troupes plus the musical talents of Les Gauguines.
Seven-night sailings July 29 and August 5
start at $2,195, with the July 22 voyage starting at $2,395.
Ten-night sailings June 21, 12 and August 23 start at $2,595;
and the June 10, July 1, and August 12 11-night voyages start
at $2,795. The December 20 and 29 nine-night holiday voyages
start at $3,295. All prices are per person and include shipboard
gratuities, wine with dinner, all juices and soft beverages,
and an in-stateroom bar set-up. Optional enrollment in the “Ambassadors
of the Environment” program is $199 per child. Participation

Disney Cruise Line Announces First-Ever
Mediterranean Cruises
For the first time, Disney Cruise Line is
adding European flair to its itinerary offerings, repositioning
the Disney Magic for the summer of 2007 to the Port of
Barcelona in Spain and offering alternating ten- and 11-night
Mediterranean cruise vacations to Europe. "Our guests have
told us they would love to take a European vacation, but all
of the planning and logistics can be daunting. These special
sailings will offer a hassle-free way to experience the beauty
and culture of Europe combined with the fun of a Disney cruise,"
said Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin.
With eight European ports of call, which
provide gateways to familiar cities such as Florence, Rome,
Pisa and Cannes, these new Mediterranean itineraries present
the family vacation of a lifetime.
The four 11-night itineraries depart on Saturdays:
May 26, June 16, July 7 and July 28; while the four ten-night
itineraries depart on Wednesdays: June 6, June 27, July 18 and
August. Both itineraries will depart from Barcelona for the
summer.
In addition to the Mediterranean cruises,
two 14-night trans-Atlantic sailings bookend the ten- and 11-night
adventures with the eastbound itinerary departing from Port
Canaveral, Florida, May 12, and the westbound starting from
the Port of Barcelona, August 18.
Bookings for these special and very limited
itineraries are scheduled to open on April 4, giving interested
guests time to plan with their families and friends. Starting
rates for the Mediterranean 10- and 11-night itineraries range
from $2,399 to $3,499 and are based on double occupancy.
Disney Cruise Line specifically designed
its ships with areas and activities that appeal to the unique
vacation needs of every member of the family. As a result, its
vacations offer guests an unbelievable cruise experience not
found anywhere else.
The ship features nearly an entire deck that
is dedicated just to kids where they can enjoy fun, supervised
activities designed for especially for different age groups.
Additionally, an experienced staff cares for infants and toddlers
at Flounder's Reef Nursery, allowing parents the opportunity
to explore ports of call or adult areas on the ship, such as
a special pool, the spa, a nighttime entertainment district
and a romantic dining experience.
The Walt Disney Theatre provides a magnificent
showplace of state-of-the-art sound, lighting, staging and set
design. The curtain is lifted after the sun drops and original
Disney musicals, family-friendly variety acts and first-run
films entertain all ages.
While sailing on a Disney cruise, guests
also get to enjoy three different themed restaurants through
the voyage. Guests travel from the casual elegance of Lumiere's
to the colorful, island-inspired Parrot Cay and Animator's Palate,
where Disney animation springs to life throughout their meal.
Along the way, they enjoy the familiarity of having the same
wait staff with them at each restaurant they visit. Adults may
also opt to dine at Palo, an exquisite restaurant featuring
sweeping views and northern Italian cuisine.
The 877 family-friendly staterooms aboard
each Disney ship were designed to offer maximum comfort. Most
feature an industry first -- a bath-and-a-half with two separate
areas; one offering a shower and sink, the other a sink and
toilet.

cruise to Europe with Disney Cruise Line should call (888)-DCL-2500,

Vacationing Kids and Their Families Travel
for Less on Discovery
If you are a family with kids planning to

will save on average $350 alone on travel, plus the cruise prices
include three meals on the roundtrip journey, entertainment,
games, activities, even a Kid's Club. Plus, you have room to
stretch your legs on one of the spacious decks.
The convenience of daily non-stop service
from Ft. Lauderdale makes it easy and convenient to travel to
Grand Bahama, no matter where you fly or drive from.

P&O’s ‘Oceana’ Adds
Creativity Programs For Kids
Children’s imaginations will be running away
with them…full-steam ahead… on board Oceana this May,
as they are treated to some lively literary performances and
activities.
P&O Cruises is introducing its first
season of Poetry…All at Sea! a program introduced to enhance
the children’s activities on board, featuring energetic published
children’s poets and personalities Roger Stevens and Paul Cookson.
Philip Price, head of brand marketing, P&O
Cruises said more and more families are taking cruise holidays
and it is just as important to add variety and excitement to
the children’s program as it is to the adult’s activity schedule.
“If the children are having a great time, so are their parents.
The beauty of a cruise holiday is parents can relax, knowing
their children are having fun and being looked after by our
qualified and committed youth team. On these occasions though,
with Paul and Roger on board, it’s likely the parents will be
wanting to join in the fun in the children’s centers!”
Stevens brings poetry alive and is well known
for his humor and ability to get anyone and everyone involved.
Children embarking on the first Iberian Interlude cruise; departing
Southampton on May 6, 2006 may even find themselves in a performance
featuring their own work! His performances feature music, hilarity
and lots of audience participation.
Children will also be entertained in Stevens’
workshops, which combine several aspects of creative writing,
poetry and music.
Cookson, who is on board the second Iberian
Interlude cruise, departing Southampton on May 27, has the unique
ability to captivate everyone with a perfect mix of the silly,
the sensitive and the serious.
His performances are also full of audience
participation for children of all ages. There are sound effects
aplenty with poems like The Toilet Seat Has Teeth! OW!!! Don’t
forget superhero extraordinaire The Amazing Captain Concorde
…NEEOOWN!! Oh and look out for Mr. Moore…who could just be creaking
past your cabin door…
The two poets will be performing four shows
each while on board, across all age groups catered for on Oceana
(2-4, 5-8 and 9-twelve year-olds) with presentations tailored
to suit each group. Macmillan Children’s Books publishes titles
by both Stevens and Cookson.
Fares are priced from £729* per person including
all main meals, activities and entertainment on board.
About the performers
Paul Cookson has been performing poetry and
helping children write their own poems since 1989. He has performed
extensively throughout the country at schools, libraries, pop
concerts, churches, pubs, radio stations and even selected front
rooms! Paul is also a freelance illustrator specialising in
cartoons and often draws as part of his workshops. He has written
and edited a number of books for Macmillan Children's Books
including: Unzip Your Lips: 100 Poems to Read Aloud, Tongue
Twisters and Tonsil Twizzlers, Loony Letters and Daft Diaries,
Who Rules the School, Teachers' Pet, Ridiculous Relatives and
What Shape is a Poem?
Roger Stevens always wanted to become a writer
and has written several novels for children and hundreds of
poems, which can be found in many anthologies. His most recent
books include a solo collection of poems for young children,
On My Way to School I Saw a Dinosaur (Hands Up Books), a solo
collection for older children, The Monster That Ate the Universe
(Macmillan) and a verse-novel for teenagers, The Journal of
Danny Chaucer (Poet) (Orion) which he dramatized and read on
Radio 4. When he is not writing poems he visits schools, festivals
and libraries, performing poetry and music and making people
laugh. He also plays in a band.

CLIA: Cruising As A Family Vacation
Disney Cruise Line
Pixie Dusted From Bow to Stern for 2006
With new itineraries in 2006 for each of
the line's two ships—Disney Magic and Disney Wonder
-- Disney Cruise Line continues to embark on unique entertainment
offerings, including a brand new Broadway-style stage show and
distinctly Disney enhancements aboard the Disney Magic. Additionally
guests will find dazzling fireworks as part of a pirate deck
party bash, enhanced and new menus in the dining rooms and redesigned
activities for the kids and adults along the way.
Itineraries
Beginning in 2006, the Disney Magic
will embark on a new itinerary making two stops at private island
Castaway Cay and also calling at Costa Maya and Cozumel to round
out this new seven-night Caribbean itinerary. This alternate
western Caribbean itinerary will sail every fourth week starting
May 27 through December 9, 2006, providing guests with an extra
day of enjoyment at the island Disney Cruise Line guests call
their very own -- Castaway Cay.
Sister ship Disney Wonder will also
embark on new itineraries for 2006 extending her current three-
and four-night Bahamian stint to the Southern Caribbean with
two special ten- and 11-night itineraries. The ten-night cruise
will depart on September 7, and the 11-night cruise departs
on September 17, 2006 with calls at St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Barbados,
Antigua, St. Kitts and Castaway Cay. Barbados and St. Kitts
are new ports of call for Disney Cruise Line.
Entertainment
With a swish of a wand, several Bibbidi Bobbidi
Boos and the turning of storybook pages, "Twice Charmed:
An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story" immerses audiences
in a new rendition of the happily ever after story of Cinderella
and her Prince Charming as the new stage show aboard the Disney
Magic. With six original compositions and two classic Disney
songs, an accomplished cast, lavish costumes and set designs,
and clever special effects, the show continues to receive standing
ovations. "Twice Charmed" is one of three original
Disney musicals performed nightly in the magnificent 977-seat
Walt Disney Theatre where after the sun drops, the curtain is
lifted and original Disney musicals and first-run films take
the stage.
Additionally, guests are discovering just
how awe-inspiring fireworks on the high seas can be. As part
of the Pirates in the Caribbean dinner and deck party, Disney
Cruise Line guests aboard both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder
are now privy to the only firework display aboard a cruise ship.
The adventurously themed evening begins with a feast fit for
a pirate in the dining room, and then transitions to an evening
sail-away celebration duel featuring the ruthless Captain Hook
and Captain Mickey. With bandanas for all guests, stunt performers
repelling from atop the ship's funnel, special lighting effects
and a stunning firework display, the party's sure to make everyone
a pirate for the night.
And Disney Magic guests can now catch a poolside
movie on a brand-new, state-of-the-art jumbo LED screen on Deck
9. The 24-by-14-foot screen shows movies and enhances the outdoor
entertainment providing spectacular views from the upper decks.
For the kids, Ocean Quest is a brand-new
hangout, making this the fourth location onboard just for youth
activities. The nautical-themed new space provides the perfect
place to play computer and video games, participate in arts
and crafts or watch a movie on one of several plasma screens
in the room. The space also features a kid-size replica of the
ship's bridge, complete with LCD screen "windows"
that give children a first-hand glimpse of the captain's view
via live video feed from the actual bridge. Here kids can play
a simulation game steering a ship in and out of ports around
the world.
Already the most extensive youth activity
area at sea, nearly an entire deck of the ship is devoted to
supervised programs for five age-specific groups of children
and teens. The Oceaneer Club is home to Peter Pan's Neverland
and the 3-7 year set, while the Oceaneer Lab is reserved for
the 8-12 set, themed for the more inquisitive as a science lab
with computers and experiment stations. Several new or enhanced
activities include:
-- 3-4 years: Sebastian's Musical Sea Search
is a hunt for instruments; once they're found, everyone has
a place in the band for a big concert.
-- 5-7 years: The next great celebrity chef
could be discovered at The Junior Chef Experience where children
work together to bake tasty Nestle Toll House chocolate chip
cookies.
-- 8-9 years: Flash your best TV smile in
Now a Word From Our Sponsor, which gives kids a chance to stand
in front of a camera and produce a commercial.
-- 10-12 years: Did you know that it's actually
polite to burp after a meal in China? Learn about differences
of other cultures during Culture Shock, an interactive quiz
game.
For the teens, The Stack (Disney Magic) and
Aloft (Disney Wonder) are the perfect hangout areas, located
high a-top decks 11 in the (faux) funnel. Identical in themes,
the two areas offer the perfect chill-out with comfy couches,
Internet access, plasma-screen TVs, MP3 players, board games
and serves as the meeting place for activities and programs
throughout the cruise.
Additionally, infants and toddlers (ages
12 weeks to three years) are cared for at Flounder's Reef Nursery,
allowing parents the opportunity to explore adult areas on their
own.
From elegant dinners, to backstage tours,
to the exclusive Quiet Cove pool, adults will find endless ways
to relax and enjoy themselves aboard in areas set-aside just
for them.
The Vista Spa and Salon has expanded to include
the addition of three specially designed indoor/outdoor treatment
suites. Each suite features an indoor treatment room connected
to a private outdoor verandah, complete with personal hot tub,
open-air shower and a luxurious chaise lounge. The fitness center
has also nearly double in size, providing more space for exercise
equipment and private one-on-one consultations.
Novel in its approach and inventive in its
execution, the dining experience rotates guests through three
different themed restaurants throughout the cruise. Accompanied
by their familiar wait staff and tablemates, guests travel from
the casual elegance of Lumiere's (Disney Magic) and Triton's
(Disney Wonder) to the colorful, island-inspired Parrot Cay
and Animator's Palate, where Disney animation springs to life
throughout their meal. Adults may also opt to dine at Palo,
an exquisite restaurant featuring sweeping views and northern
Italian cuisine. Unique new dining experiences created specifically
to parallel the onboard entertainment include two new menus:

CLIA
Cruise Lines Offer A Variety of Family
Vacations In Europe & Caribbean
Choosing the right family vacation to keep
both parents and kids happy can be a challenge. For those parents
seeking an alternative to the traditional summer road trip or
week by the seashore, a cruise might be just the solution. In
fact, a cruise was the top vacation choice for the perfect summer
trip in a 2005 National Geographic Kids survey that polled 401
children ages eight to 14. “Cruises are this summer’s best family
vacation value,” according to Terry L. Dale, president and CEO
of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the cruise
industry’s chief marketing organization. “In addition to a sea
of destinations to choose from, today’s cruise ships offer a
mind-boggling variety of amenities and activities for passengers
of all ages.”
For summer 2006, destinations include popular
ports in the Caribbean and Mediterranean as well as lesser-known
destinations in Scandinavia, Russia and Iceland. Cruises appeal
to children because CLIA-member line ships combine facilities
and amenities for toddlers, young children and teenagers with
a comprehensive program of supervised, age-appropriate activities,
plus the excitement of traveling from port to port on the high
seas.
Moreover, cruises uniquely provide both family
“together-time” and “alone-time.” In addition to organized activities,
kids can enjoy Internet access, water parks and video jukeboxes
in dedicated private clubs. Meanwhile, parents can stretch out
on adults-only sundecks and in relaxing hot tubs, or take in
a couples’ massage or enrichment class. On summer nights, babysitting
services let grown-ups “paint the town,” including dining, dancing
and moonlit walks on deck.
According to the National Geographic Kids
survey, 35 percent of children said cruises were their most
popular choice. Beaches ranked second (17 percent), followed
by amusement parks (17 percent), big cities (5 percent), lakes
(3 percent), and summer camp (2 percent).
Following is a sampling of sailings offered
by CLIA-member cruise lines that are perfect for summer family
vacations:

characters, festive holiday décor, carolers, gingerbread house
building and even “snow” that magically falls, await all those
who board a Disney Cruise during the month of December. Both
Disney ships – Disney Magic and Disney Wonder

entertainment and activities for the entire family.
It all starts at Disney’s private cruise

highlights including:
The last stop for all Disney Cruises is the

to a “Magical Wonderland,” a themed décor package that has transformed
the sandy Bahamian island into a “snowy” holiday hideaway.
In addition to "snow" flurries,
guests enjoy seeing Christmas trees, Mr. and Mrs. Snowman (with
shell noses and tropical shirts), carolers and a sleigh full

Use a Travel Agent and Make Family Travel
Fun Travel
According to a recent survey, when it comes
to spending quality vacation time with their families, nearly
a third of all parents become so overwhelmed by the planning
that they would rather travel with their co-workers. Rather
than traveling with a co-worker, the American Society of Travel
Agents (ASTA) as well as Cruise Lines International Association
(CLIA)* recommend that parents to work with a travel agent who
specializes in family travel. A professional travel agent can
help even the most harried parents build lasting and positive
memories of their family vacation—without bringing Eddie from
Accounting along for the ride. “Family vacations are such a
great way to reconnect with your family, but there are times
when the pressures of planning a get-away can spoil the excitement,”
said ASTA President and CEO Kathryn W. Sudeikis, CTC. “That’s
where family-travel specialists come in. These travel agents
know just how daunting planning a trip that will make all the
generations happy can be, but thanks to their expertise and
knowledge they can make the process easier by recommending vacations
tailor-made for your family’s interests and budget. As family
travel specialist, we have a strong understanding of family
dynamics and what it takes to get families together for an event
while keeping all the parties happy.”
ASTA’s consumer website, www.TravelSense.org offers
tips for all kinds of family travel, from traveling with kids,
teens and even grandchildren. Be it holiday travel, a weekend
road trip or planning a family reunion, ASTA travel agents can
create the perfect family vacation without testing your patience
or your pocketbook.
Tip: If you are flying to your
cruise port, review screening procedures with children before
entering security checkpoints so they will not be frightened
by the process. When going through metal detectors, with an
infant, have one parent hold the baby and walk through the machine.
Do not hand off the baby under the detector, or hand the baby
to the screener to hold. The best coach seats to have when flying
with small children are the first row in economy class. There's
a lot of legroom, and you'll be removed from most of the plane
when the kids get cranky from the long flight. Getting your
seat assignment in advance can help ensure families are seated
together and that children and adults will be seated next to
each other.
NOTE: For cruise planning, travel
agents, particularly those affiliated with Cruise Lines International
Association (CLIA), are the traveler's best resource for planning
a cruise vacation! Nearly 17,000 travel agencies across the
U.S. and Canada are affiliated with CLIA. These travel agencies
join CLIA for sales and cruise product training, for information
on current cruise vacation trends and to be kept informed by
CLIA's 19 member cruise lines on cruise news and special offers.
By being a CLIA affiliate these travel agencies have chosen
to specialize in cruise vacations and, by doing so, they are
especially qualified in helping you choose the perfect cruise
and getting you the best vacation value. CLIA website: www.cruising.org
Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest
cruise operator, and The Coca-Cola Company, the world’s largest
soft drink manufacturer, have teamed up to create “Club O2,”
a new teen program aboard the line’s 21 Fun Ships. “Club O2,”
which is targeted at teens in the 15-to-17 age group, encompasses
a variety of new and expanded programming fleetwide, as well
as new teen directors aboard each ship and spacious teen clubs
offering a memorable setting for activities or just hanging
out. The teen centers are currently featured on 12 of 21 Carnival
ships with the majority of the other ships scheduled to be retrofitted
by the end of the year.
The 1,000- to 1,800-square-foot teen clubs
include a dance floor with a DJ, a state-of-the-art sound and
lighting system and large-screen plasma TVs displaying the latest
movies and music videos. Select teen clubs also feature a library
with popular teen-oriented books and magazines, video game units,
16-monitor “video walls,” and “listening stations” where teens
can plug in and hear the latest tunes.
The “Club O2” activities begin shortly after
teens arrive on board as they attend a “Welcome Aboard” party
where they receive a complete listing of the voyage’s activities,
as well as a variety of promotional materials, including a mesh
“Club O2” bag.
Then throughout the voyage, teens can enjoy
a wide range of activities such as karaoke sessions, nightly
themed parties, late-night movies, video game contests, basketball,
ping-pong and other sporting events.
Following the latest “reality TV” craze,
games based on “The Bachelor/Bachelorette,” “Fear Factor” and
“Survivor” are played daily. Activities start in the early
afternoon and run well into the evening.
Activities are coordinated by a “Club O2”
teen director aboard each ship. “These energetic directors
are really the catalyst for ‘Club O2’ and create an exciting
atmosphere for getting teens involved,” Dickinson said.
The new fleetwide teen program continues
Carnival’s efforts at catering to this burgeoning market. Recent
enhancements include the fleetwide Y-Spa program aimed exclusively
at older kids and their parents who can enjoy a variety of soothing,
luxurious body and facial treatments.
Teens-only shore excursions are also available,
providing older kids an opportunity to experience Carnival’s
exciting destinations together as a group. Outings are accompanied
by a member of the teen staff and include such options as cave
tubing in Belize, horseback riding in Cozumel, and swimming
with stingrays in Grand Cayman.
Other fleetwide amenities popular with teens
include 24-hour pizza and ice cream in the poolside restaurants
and high-tech arcades featuring the latest video games. Teens
can also enjoy a nine-hole miniature golf course on the Imagination,
as well as a 270-square-foot outdoor television screen on the
new Carnival Liberty which debuted last month.
Each Carnival ship offers at least three
swimming pools as well as a twisting, turning water slide.
The line will expand the “Fun Ship” fleet
with the launch of the 110,000-ton Carnival Freedom which is
scheduled to enter service in February 2007.

According to a National Geographic Kids survey
in which 401 children ages eight to 14 were polled, taking a
cruise is the top choice for a vacation. The survey results
come as no surprise to Cruise Lines International Association
(CLIA), whose 19 member lines are carrying unprecedented numbers
of children sailings with parents from year to year.
“More than 1 million children under the age
of 18 took cruises with their families in 2004 and there’s a
reason why: Cruise vacations appeal to the whole family,” said
Terry L. Dale, president and CEO of CLIA, the cruise industry’s
chief marketing organization.
CLIA is witnessing an acceleration of this
trend in 2005 and beyond, and to keep up with demand for family
travel cruise lines continue to add amenities and activities
for the whole family – from toddlers to grandparents. Virtually
all lines feature extensive, highly supervised children’s programs
where kids are placed in age-appropriate groups. Teen lounges,
video arcades, computer learning centers, toddlers’ play areas
as even special shore excursions for children are all a part
of the mix.
In the National Geographic Kids survey, 35
percent of children said cruises were their most popular choice.
Beaches came in second (17 percent), followed by amusement parks
(17 percent), big cities (5 percent); lakes (3 percent; and
summer camp (2 percent).
All In The Family: Cruises Provide Oceans
Of Fun For One And All
More than 1 million children under the age
of 18 took to the High Seas with their families in 2004 and
there’s a reason why: Cruises offer an ever-increasing variety
of amenities and activities to make them the ideal family friendly
vacation, according to the Cruise Lines International Association
(CLIA) – the US cruise industry’s chief marketing organization.
For instance, CLIA member lines have developed
onboard programs that not only feature family “together” time,
but also “alone” time for parents. Together, parents and kids
can participate in mock game shows, story hours, treasure hunts,
family water play and make-your-own sundae sessions. Some cruise
lines even provide beepers so children’s counselors can contact
parents at any time during the cruise.
Kids sailing aboard CLIA member-line ships
can enjoy a host of supervised, age-appropriate activities while
adults take in the sun on deck, enjoy a massage for two in the
spa or take an enrichment class. In the evenings, many lines
offer babysitting services so that couples can enjoy a “night
on the town,” including dining and dancing. “More than ever,
people want to spend quality recreational time with their families,”
said Terry L. Dale, CLIA’s president and CEO. “A cruise provides
the very best opportunity to do that on vacation.”
Family cruises also offer great value. Several
CLIA member lines feature accommodations that are tailor-made
for families, including large staterooms with cordoned off sleeping
quarters for parents and inter-connecting cabins for families
with older kids. Since most everything is included in the cost
of a cruise – accommodations, meals, entertainment, children’s
activity programs and more, cruises combine great value with
the chance for families to experience a spectacular vacation
together,” said Dale.
Following is a listing of programs, amenities
and facilities for children and families sailing aboard CLIA
member-line ships:
At Carnival, the concept of ‘fun’ is taken
very seriously when it comes to kids. Camp Carnival offers activities
that divide children into age groups of two to five, six to
eight, nine to 11, 12 to 14, and 15 to 17. For the younger set,
Carnival ships feature kid-friendly amenities and programs supervised
by highly trained youth counselors in state-of-art facilities
– some of which measure 4,200 square feet. On several vessels
children can also enjoy arts and crafts centers, with spin-
and sand-art machines; cascading poolside slides; “activity
walls;” indoor climbing mazes, and computer labs. The line also
offers expanded children’s menus in the dining rooms and poolside
restaurants.
Celebrity’s Family Cruising Program is designed
with specific activities tailored to the interests and needs
of four age groups. Each ship has a dedicated staff of eight
to 12 youth counselors, including one supervisor and one lifeguard,
who direct the youth activities. Counselors are trained in child
psychology, child development, education and/or recreation.
Age groups are three to six, seven to nine, ten to 12, 13 to
15 and 17 to 17. Celebrity Science Journeys, offered on every
ship, encourage children to learn about science and nature in
an engaging environment. Other program highlights include youth
summer stock theater junior Olympics, magic lessons, treasure
hunts and clown parties.
Many facilities aboard Crystal’s ships Crystal
Symphony and Crystal Serenity were designed with
young guests in mind. Fantasia has supervised activities, tables
and chairs for board games, arts and crafts, giant padded cubes,
Sony PlayStation® kiosks, and large-screen televisions. Waves
is a venue where teenagers can enjoy a video arcade. The line
also offers Etiquette Training for Juniors, developed in conjunction
with Gollatz Cotillion, whereby young cruisers learn how to
handle themselves in a variety of social situations. During
holidays and selected sailings, Crystal offers additional children’s
activities under the supervision of experienced Junior Activities
Directors in age-appropriate groups.
Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth
2 have nurseries staffed by accredited British nannies.
Aboard these British icons kids can even participate in a dedicated
Children’s Tea, served each afternoon. Queen Mary 2, the world’s
largest liner, features age-appropriate programs for children
in three groups: The Nursery provides cribs and cots for children
ages 1-2 years; The Play Zone offers myriad activities for kids
3-6 years old, including pizza parties, movie nights, and face
painting; and for older children ages seven to ten, The Zone
offers scavenger hunts, ship tours, quizzes, DJ booth, and Xboxes,
among many other activities.
Disney’s ships Disney Magic and
Disney Wonder have nearly an entire deck dedicated to children
ages 3 months to 17 years. Oceaneer’s Club, for kids 3 to 7,
includes dances with Snow White, a Sebastian’s Musical Sea Search
for instruments and splashy games on the line’s private island.
Kids eight to 12 can venture to “infinity and beyond” at the
space and science themed Oceaneer Lab. The Stack (Disney Magic)
and Aloft (Disney Wonder) are reserved for kids 13 to 17 and
are packed with comfy couches, a soda bar, Internet access,
plasma TVs, MP3 players and board games.
Holland America Line’s Club HAL youth program
features age-specific activities designed to provide kids and
teens with entertaining choices – and parents with peace of
mind knowing their children are having fun while being well
supervised at the same time. Activities planned for children
ages five through eight might include arts and crafts, face-painting,
camp-out night and candy bar Bingo. Tweens, the in-betweens,
ages nine through 12, might learn golf putting, have dance parties,
compete in on-deck sports events, play arcade games and tie-dye
t-shirts. Teens will enjoy the teen disco, dance lessons, arcade
games, sports tournaments, play stations and movies.
Each of MSC Cruises’ ships feature a designated
children’s area, and MSC Sinfonia also offers a Teen
Club. Children are under the supervision of trained youth counselors
who coordinate organized games, sports, arts and crafts, and
special age-appropriate parties. Activities are organized by
age group, with more activities planned during the holiday and
summer vacation seasons when more children are sailing. The
line’s ships offer suites (double, queen- or king-sized bed
plus sofa bed) are able to accommodate as many as four people.
MSC Lirica, MSC Opera, MSC Sinfonia and MSC Armonia also
offer family-size suites consisting of two rooms.
Norwegian Cruise Line ships offers supervised
programs (ages two to five, six to eight, nine to 12, and
13 to 17) with a host of Kid’s Krew venues, including dining
areas exclusively for kids, video arcade rooms and teen clubs.
NCL America’s new vessel, Pride of America, features
extensive recreational opportunities for kids, including 250
interconnecting cabins. The ship also has eight 360-square-foot
suites with private balcony, living room with double sofa bed
and entertainment center, separate den with a single sofa bed,
and private bedroom with two twin beds. Four additional family
suites feature two interconnecting cabins that sleep up to eight
and include two separate bathrooms.
Princess Kids offers a wide range of activities
for children in three age-specific programs, with age-appropriate
activities and often separate facilities, for kids three to
seven, eight to 12, and 13 to 17. Most ships feature youth and
teen centers that keep young sailors entertained with art corners,
game tables, ping pong tables, juke boxes and the latest video
games. Newer ships feature such diversions as a toddler’s play
area and theater, doll’s house, crawl-through castle and splash
