Celebrity Offering Guest Glass Artist Theme Cruises

Partnering with The Corning Museum of Glass, Celebrity will offer Guest Glass Artist theme cruises, each featuring an artisan glassblower. Five Guest Glass Artist cruises will be offered, on Caribbean sailings on the brand-new Celebrity Eclipse, which sets sail for the first time from Miami in November, and on Celebrity Solstice.

During the Guest Glass Artist cruises, guests will have the opportunity to partake in a meet-and-greet cocktail reception with the guest artist, lectures and presentations about various glassblowing topics, live Hot Glass Show glassblowing demonstrations, exclusive trunk shows and book signings featuring the guest artist’s works, and an interactive session where guests design something the guest artist then creates out of glass.

Sail dates for Celebrity’s 2011 Guest Glass Artist cruises are January 2, January 22, and April 2, 2011 on Celebrity Eclipse, and November 13 and December 11, 2011 on Celebrity Solstice.

Celebrity also will broaden the popular “Savor Your Destination” guest chef program introduced earlier in 2010 to include more sailings hosted by up-and-coming chefs. The “Savor Your Destination” series will be expanded in 2011 to include five winemaker-hosted cruises.

A total of 13 “Savor Your Destination” chef-hosted cruises will be offered on Celebrity’s Solstice Class ships, allowing travelers the opportunity to enjoy memorable experiences through food-and-wine-focused activities, among others. The “Savor Your Destination” cruises will complement the ships’ overall emphasis on the enjoyment of fine food and wine.

Savor Your Destination guest chef cruises offer guests the opportunity to take their culinary interests to new levels through activities such as a meet-and-greet cocktail reception, guest chef-led cooking demonstrations highlighting techniques and ingredients, book signings, a “Star Chefs” cook-off featuring an interactive cooking competition, and a hands-on cooking class led by the guest chef in the ship’s galley. Guests will receive a special recipe booklet featuring the guest chef’s creations, and enjoy an exclusive food-and-wine-pairing dinner designed and presented by the guest chef in one of the five specialty restaurants onboard.

Celebrity’s 2011 Savor Your Destination guest chef cruises will be offered on Celebrity Solstice on January 9, May 14, June 7, August 1 and October 11, 2011, on Celebrity Eclipse on January 29, March 12, March 26 and December 10, 2011, and on Celebrity Equinox on April 1, April 11, April 22 and December 12, 2011.

Guest Wine Experts For Oenophiles

Following the success of the 2010 Savor Your Destination guest chef cruises, Celebrity will offer five winemaker-hosted cruises in 2011. Experts from the world of winemaking will join guests for a meet-and-greet cocktail hour; wine, champagne, sparkling wine and port tastings; wine education sessions; and a “Connoisseur Wine Dinner” hosted by the winemaker. These cruises also will feature the Riedel Wine Glass Comparative Workshop, explaining how a wine glass’ shape affects the palate and flavors.

In 2011, Celebrity will continue its fall “Wine Harvest Celebration” theme cruises. More than 38 sailings are timed to coincide with the fall wine harvest season. On cruises departing between November 1 and December 10, guests can enjoy a variety of exclusive wine-related events, including those offered year-round through the “Celebrity Life” onboard activities program.

A “CelebrityVineyards Wine Harvest Exposition” will be open to all guests on embarkation day. Hosted by Celebrity’s certified sommeliers, the event will feature a complimentary glass of house wine and canapés, and an overview of the various wine experiences and packages available for guests, paired with the opportunity to make reservations for limited-capacity events. Additional activities will include “Wine Appreciation 101,” “The Art of Food and Wine Pairing,” and the Riedel Comparative Wine Glass Workshop; Celebrity’s “World Wine Tasting and Silent Auction”; and a jazz, port and chocolate tasting.

Also, Celebrity will expand the availability of “Beaujolais Nouveau” across the fleet. Beaujolais Nouveau, a red wine that symbolizes the new grape harvest in France, has gained widespread popularity worldwide. By law, all the grapes used in the production of Beaujolais Nouveau must be “gamay” grapes, and must be hand-picked.

Hosted by a guest speaker and Celebrity’s own Cellar Master, a “Beaujolais Nouveau Celebration” event will offer guests the opportunity to sip the eagerly-anticipated wine from oak casks and commemorative bottles, while enjoying live music and dancing, canapés, a gourmet French cheese pairing and a roast carving station.

Celebrity’s 2011 Savor Your Destination winemaker cruises will take place on Celebrity Mercury on January 15 and February 5, on Celebrity Summit April 30 and October 23, and on Celebrity Century on September 18.

Although Celebrity hasn’t yet announced its full 2012 theme cruise lineup, it has opened an eight-night Pacific Northwest wine cruise for booking, taking place on Celebrity Century on May 5, 2012.

An additional charge applies for participants in certain events, including wine tastings, wine pairing dinners and hands-on cooking.

Four International Master Chefs Join MSC Lirica

Guests who embark on MSC Poesia in Genoa on the November 1 are due a treat. Not just because they are traveling on a fantastic 21-day voyage across the Atlantic and down the exotic coast of South America calling at Marseille, Barcelona, Cadiz, Casablanca, Arecife, Santa Cruz, Recife, Salvador, Buzios and Rio de Janeiro before finally arriving in Buenos Aires on November 22 but because they will be able to enjoy a journey of discovery too. Four master chefs from Europe and South America will be joining the ship at various intervals to share some of their favorite menus with diners.

Each Cordon Bleu cook will be preparing delicious specialty dishes from his own country. As well as being able to savor the chef’s magnificent food, passengers will have the opportunity to see them in action too. Each culinary expert will take a turn every few days or so to be a star in his own morning show. It will be an excellent opportunity for would-be chefs in the audience to learn a few culinary tips from a true master and even ask for a signed menu.

Bruno Barbieri is a two-star Michelin starred Italian chef and a cooking celebrity on Italian radio and TV. A brilliant gastronomic experimentalist, he has a great talent for combining traditional ingredients in new and imaginative way. Diners will never have eaten Italian this way before. He’ll be giving four master class cooking demonstrations featuring twelve Italian and international specialties including four from his latest book “Tajine senza frontiere” (Tajine without borders.)

Allan Vila Espejo is a Brazilian who is a natural master at cooking Spanish cuisine – although often with an Italian twist. A truly international chef, he’s cooked for celebrities like Bill Gates, Pele and a Brazilian president or two. He’s in the Guinness book for cooking the largest steak in the world – but guests will remember his meals for how delicious they taste rather than their size.

Martiniano Molina’s culinary talents have bought him fame in Argentina. As well as a gastronomic columnist for leading magazines he’s had numerous books published and frequently appears on television. He’ll be on the culinary stage preparing mouth-watering Argentinian masterpieces.

Holder of two  Michelin stars, Mauro Uliassi is a true master of Italian gastronomy. He loves exploring new techniques and looking for new flavors. He’s not too bad at discovering them either considering the number of prestigious awards he’s won. He’ll be demonstrating how to make “vincisgrassi di pesce” (a special fish lasagna) and “gnocchi alla gricia con cannocchie e porro fritto” (potato dumplings with bacon and Pecorino cheese, plus mantis prawn and fried leek).

There are free one-hour wine tasting sessions on several afternoons where there will be an opportunity to sample a glass or two of the finest Italian and South American wines. There are even sommeliers provided by the wine producers to offer an expert opinion. Or for something a little different people can try a Vitamin Bomb or Dragon’s Heart made at the cocktails demonstrations on board.

The rest of the year there will be other chances to taste gastronomic dishes onboard MSC Magnifica where you will be served Mauro Uliassi’s dishes as it sails throughout the winter in the East Mediterranean

Princess Cruises Will Add Alaska Ship in 2012

After two years operating just three ships on its Voyage of the Glaciers route, today Princess Cruises announced that it will be returning a fourth ship to its signature itinerary for the 2012 summer season. The decision by Princess to increase its Alaska capacity was prompted, in part, by recent changes to the head tax structure in the state and the more balanced approach to doing business in Alaska, according to the line.

Princess' Voyage of the Glacier itinerary is the line's most popular Alaska itinerary, taking passengers between Vancouver and Whittier across the Gulf of Alaska with a visit to Glacier Bay and ports of call in the state's southeast. Because many passengers on this one-way route usually spend extra time in Alaska's interior utilizing Princess' lodges, rail and motorcoaches, this itinerary provides significant tourism benefits to the state.

Full details of Princess' 2012 Alaska deployment will be announced in spring 2011, including which ship will be added to the lineup.

16 New Shore Excursions for 2010/11 Caribbean & Panama Canal Cruises

As Princess Cruises ships begin to return to the Caribbean this month for the fall cruise season, they will also introduce 16 new shore excursion options for passengers, including a series of "Connoisseur" tours with smaller groups for a more personal experience. Options range from hiking mountains to exploring caves, and watching monkeys to discovering a cocoa plantation.

The new tours are part of the approximately 550 shore excursion options available in 38 Caribbean ports during the season. Among the new offerings are a selection of Connoisseur excursions, special tours with smaller groups and unique experiences, including visits to exclusive resorts, tours of private estates and even the experience of sailing in a yacht race. Family groups will also find new tours designed especially with kids in mind, including a pirate ship adventure and boogie boarding lessons.

Some of the new excursion options include:

--Tobago Cocoa Discovery (Tobago) At its peak, Trinidad and Tobago produced 75 million pounds of cocoa annually, 20 percent of the world's supply. This new agro-tourism heritage excursion takes passengers on a walking tour through the Tobago Cocoa Estate overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Participants can learn about the history of the cocoa industry plus visit a mud oven and a cocoa house where the cocoa is dried.

Harrison's Cave & Scenic Drive (Barbados) Considered one of the Caribbean's top natural attractions, Harrison's Cave was recently redeveloped for easier access. The magnificent crystallized limestone cavern surrounds visitors with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Passengers will see the 50-foot "Great Hall" chamber and the cave's thunderous 40-foot waterfall that cascades into a blue-green lake.

--Bonaire Exploration (Bonaire) They look like mountains of snow ... but they are actually mounds of salt. The Bonaire salt flats are one of the dramatic attractions on this new island tour. Passengers take an eye-opening trip along the south coast where they can enjoy the view. After a tour of the salt flats, the adventure continues as passengers explore the area of Washikemba with its giant cactus, wild donkeys, iguanas and birds.

Hiking Christoffel Mountain (Curacao) Curacao's largest national park and conservation area, Christoffel Park consists of three former plantations and is filled with flora and fauna ... and numerous hiking trails. The park's most challenging hike is a three-hour trek to the island's highest point (1,239 feet) where hikers can enjoy dramatic views across the island.

--Monkey Watch & Canal Nature Cruise (Fuerte Amador, Panama) From the Panama Canal's Gatun Lake passengers travel into a labyrinth of islands in search of monkeys and other native animals. In this protected area visitors will likely encounter capuchin monkeys, three-toed sloths, howler monkeys, various kinds of toucans, as well as caimans, crocodiles, turtles, and a wealth of butterflies. Trained naturalist guides ensure that participants see and understand all that they spot.

--Fort San Lorenzo & Gatun Locks (Panama Canal) Fort San Lorenzo is one of the most complete and largest of the forts built in Panama, full of pirate history and amazing views. The 16th-century fortress sits high on the cliff that overlooks both the Atlantic and the entrance to the Chagres River. Passengers will learn the history of the buccaneers and Captain Morgan's attack. Passengers will also get to visit the Gatun Locks observation area where they have a close-up look at the operation of the Canal's largest set of locks.

--Playa El Coco Beach Break (San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua) Secluded, unspoiled Coco Beach is one of Nicaragua's best beaches. Passengers will enjoy a day of fun in the sun, plus get to taste the national drink -- Macuá, made with white rum and fruit juices. Active passengers can rent boogie boards, surf boards and bicycles.

--Jost Van Dyke Beach Adventure (Tortola, BVI) Just four miles long, with fewer than 200 inhabitants, Jost Van Dyke is truly the "barefoot" island known for its laid-back lifestyle and white-sand beaches. Passengers will land on the glorious beach of White Bay just as the early settlers did -- directly onto the sand. The beach is lined with bars but the most notable is the Soggy Dollar Bar, named for the condition of the money from sailors who swam ashore.

--Family Fun, Beach & Nature Walk (St. Maarten) This family-friendly outing visits unspoiled Guana Bay Beach, located on the Atlantic coast of St. Maarten. Wave action here is ideal for body surfing and boogie-boarding, and one of the guides will take charge of the young ones boogie board lessons. Adults can participate as well or watch the action. The whole family then sets off on a sightseeing nature walk along an old plantation trail offering panoramic views. Pirate Schooner to Turtle Cove (St. Thomas, USVI) Do pirates really say "Arrgghhhh?" Family members can find out when they step aboard the classic schooner "Bones" for some high seas fun. All swabbies are invited to take a nice long walk down the short plank for a "wee" dip in Turtle Cove. The friendly, motley crew provides snorkel equipment. On the fun sail back to St. Thomas kids can become an honorary captain and take a turn at the wheel. "Pirates" will come home with a tattoo, eye-patch and a souvenir photo.

--New Connoisseur Tours -- These special excursions offer intimate, exclusive experiences to groups no larger than 20 passengers. Each includes unique experiences not offered on other tours, with some also including an upscale dining experience.

--"America's Cup 12-Metre" Yacht Race (Cozumel) Passengers can "compete" in an actual simulated race around a shortened "America's Cup" course, and under the watchful eyes of the experienced crew, are invited to participate in the thrill of sailing these fabulous "greyhounds of the sea." Each guest is offered a small task and is given instruction by the crewmembers.

--A Hacienda Experience (Limon, Costa Rica) This memorable cultural experience features a visit to a unique family-owned, century-old hacienda, nestled in the mountains near San Jose, Costa Rica. The hacienda serves as a home and boutique guest house capturing expansive views of the Central Valley and magnificent Reventazon River. Participants will learn about the colonial days and the processing of sugarcane, coffee, and macadamia nuts.

--Carara National Park & Villa Caletas (Puntarenas, Costa Rica) This tour combines a nature walk through a national park and lunch at a superb mountain retreat. Carara National Park, one of the most famous in Costa Rica, has one of the world's largest populations of wild scarlet macaws. Naturalists lead passengers on a two-hour walk filled with a variety of bird life. Next is lunch at Villa Caletas, a one-of-a-kind mountain boutique resort nestled 1,150 feet above the Pacific.

--The Magnificent Pitons at Ladera Resort (St. Lucia) Views of the awe-inspiring Pitons are combined with an unforgettable lunch at the Caribbean's #1 resort hotel in this excursion option. Passengers will travel through the rolling countryside of St. Lucia's lush western coast, including a UNESCO World Heritage Site management area. Participants visit the famous Ladera Resort, where they'll have lunch enjoying the commanding view of the twin Pitons mountains.

Six Princess ships will visit more than 25 ports throughout the idyllic Caribbean in 2010-11, with 14 itinerary choices. In addition three ships sail on Panama Canal routes, with a variety of itinerary options, including the two-day Canal Experience for more time to explore Panama.
