Costa Cruises
Costa Cruises From Dubai Debuts December 2006
Costa Crociere debuts in Dubai this December, when
two ships belonging to the Italian group—the Costa
Classica and AIDAcara— will depart every
week from the port of Dubai on Arabian Gulf cruises
in a marketing move which is unprecedented in the
global cruise industry. The local authorities in Dubai,"
said Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa Crociere Chairman &
CEO, "have been involved in an important development
program aimed at making the United Arab Emirates and
the Arabian Gulf a major travel destination for European
tourists. I believe that the arrival in Dubai of an
international operator like Costa Crociere can make
a significant contribution towards achieving this
objective.
For the first time a leading cruise operator has
decided to schedule itineraries intended for an international
clientele with departures out of Dubai, which is easily
accessible from Europe and renowned for its fine,
sunny weather and mild winter.
The seven-day itinerary includes two nights in Dubai
and one-day stopovers in the ports of Muscat (Oman),
Fujairah (United Arab Emirates), Abu Dhabi (United
Arab Emirates) and Bahrain.
The Costa Classica will depart on Saturdays while
the AIDAcara will leave every Friday. In all, the
two ships will be deployed on a total of 25 cruises,
17 on the Costa Classica (from December 23, 2006 to
April 14, 2007) and 8 on the AIDAcara (from December
22, 2006 to February 9, 2007).
The cruises will include guided excursions in each
port of call, with visits to some of the best local
tourist attractions - places of natural beauty or
historical and cultural interest.
The program features desert adventures, trips to
some of the most exclusive beaches in the Arabian
Gulf, visits to the finest mosques, historical buildings
and museums, tours of the city and their typical markets,
as well as boating excursions to go dolphin-watching.
There are two repositioning cruises:
-- The Costa Classica is due to depart from Savona
on December 5 and reach Dubai on December 22, 2006,
with stopovers en route in Naples, Alexandria (Egypt),
Port Said (Egypt), Sharm el Sheik (Egypt), Aqaba (Jordan)
Safaga (Egypt), Hodeidah (Yemen), Mukalla (Yemen),
Salalah (Oman) and Muscat (Oman).
-- The AIDAcara will reach Dubai by means of two
separate cruises: the first, departing from Palma
de Majorca on December 1 and arriving at Sharm el
Sheik on December 9, 2006; the second, departing from
Sharm el Sheik on December 9 and arriving in Dubai
on December 21, 2006.
The 53,000 gross ton Costa Classica, which was built
by Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard and entered service
in 1991, is 221 meters in length, 31 meters in breadth
and can accommodate up to 1680 Guests. Her design
exudes Italian style and elegance. On board, the decks
are spacious and sunny while the interiors feature
stunning works of art.
There are bars, a restaurant, buffet, casino, health
& beauty centre, a disco, dance clubs, theatre,
two swimming pools, meeting rooms and a host of other
facilities guaranteeing a fun, relaxing holiday.
The 38,600 gross ton AIDAcara, which was built by
the Kvaerner Masa Yards and entered service in 1996,
is 193 meters in length, 27 meters in breadth, and
has total Guest capacity of 1,339. Like all AIDA ships,
the AIDAcara is reserved for the German-speaking market,
her hallmarks being a youthful style and informal
service. Facilities on board include a restaurant,

Cunard Line
More Amenities For Pets On Queen Mary 2’s Transatlantic
Crossings
Long accustomed to cosseting travelers in the lap
of luxury, Cunard is now extending its expertise to
the four-legged friends of its Queen Mary 2
guests. Recognizing the growing trend toward traveling
with pets, the cruise line has made noteworthy enhancements
to its Pets on Deck program, including adding a range
of pet-friendly services and amenities such as fresh-baked
biscuits at turn-down; a choice of beds and blankets;
and even a QM2-logoed coat.
Queen Mary 2's kennel program is overseen by a full-time
Kennel Master who takes care of daily pet care responsibilities
such as feeding, walking and cleaning the ship's 12
spacious kennels.
As part of the enhanced program, traveling dogs and
cats also receive a complimentary gift pack featuring
a QM2-logoed coat, Frisbee, name tag, food dish and
scoop; a complimentary portrait with pet owners; a
crossing certificate and personalized cruise card.
Other pet perks include -extra comfortable pet beds
in two sizes; healthy gourmet cookies for dogs and
cats baked fresh daily and offered at bedtime; fleece
blankets and an assortment of dog and cat toys; cat
posts and scratchers; and a selection of premium pet
foods from top brands.
The kennels and adjacent indoor and outdoor walking
areas are open throughout the day, enabling guests
to spend significant time with their pet. Reservations
for the kennels may be made at time of booking, and
are based on space availability. The kennel fee ranges
from $300 to $500.
Taking good care of its guests' beloved pets is a
long and illustrious Cunard tradition. The line's
friendly pet policy dates back to the maiden voyage
of the Britannia in 1840, when three cats were on
board. Since then, circus elephants, canaries, a
monkey and even a boa constrictor have traveled Cunard.
Widely considered the line-of-choice by generations
of celebrities, Cunard has also transported a surprising
number of notable pets. Mr. Ramshaw, the world's only
trained golden eagle, made at least 21 transatlantic
crossings on mid 20th-century liners; Rin-Tin-Tin,
star of 36 silent films, traveled on the Berengaria;
and Tom Mix and Tony, stars of the 1930's western
series "Miracle Rider," regularly trotted
up the gangway. (Tony's hooves were even fitted with
special rubber shoes to prevent the horse from slipping.)
In the 1950s, Elizabeth Taylor brought her pampered
puppies on board the original Queen Mary and exercised
them regularly on the ship's sports deck. She even
ordered special meals for them from the fish chef.
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor also traveled with
a beloved pup and, at the Duke's behest, Cunard installed
a lamp post beside the kennels.

cruise program visits destinations including the Adriatic,
Baltic, Canaries, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Scandinavia
and some interesting new ports of call will include
Kemi and Vaasa in Finnish Lapland, Tripoli in Libya
and the Azores. The ship will be based in Dover,
England, which will be her home port for all her 2006
cruises.
Boudicca, named after the great warrior queen of

Watch, and will have a similar spacious layout
encompassing gracious décor, stylish interiors and
generously sized, beautifully fitted cabins. Characteristics
familiar to Fred.Olsen customers will include large
windows, flooding the ship with light, and a teak
promenade deck for strolling or relaxing, all of which
will contribute to the sense of space and relaxation
associated with Fred. Olsen ships. Boudicca has undergone
a comprehensive refit, including the creation of many
extra balcony cabins and suites, as well as the fitting
of new engines and propellers for faster, smoother
sailing. The completed ship will has 450 cabins and
carries around 840 passengers, in keeping with the
Fred.Olsen philosophy of operating smaller, more intimate
vessels.
The cruises on Boudicca’s first season range from
a three-night mini cruise to a 28 night voyage to
the Caribbean. Boudicca’s inaugural cruise will be
to the Canaries, a fifteen-night cruise departing
Dover on 25th February 2006. There will be plenty
of time at sea to relish the new ship and all her
facilities, and ports of call are Funchal (Madeira),
San Sebastian (La Gomera), Santa Cruz (Tenerife),
Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), Arrecife (Lanzarote), Agadir
(Morocco) and finally Lisbon (Portugal) before returning
to Dover. This cruise is fully booked.
Boudicca’s second cruise will be to the Caribbean—an
ex-UK cruise from Dover, making it ideal for customers
who prefer not to fly. Islands visited will include
Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, Dominica, St, Kitts,
Antigua, Tortola and St Maarten with a final call
into the Azores on the return voyage. This cruise
will also have ArtsClub themes of Wildlife and History.
During spring and summer 2006, Boudicca will cruise
to Scandinavia, the eastern and western Mediterranean,
Norway, the Baltic and Iceland, while autumn sees
her returning to the Canaries and also visiting the
Adriatic.
Many cruises will include an ArtsClub special interest
theme – one very unusual cruise will be the Celtic

from Dover on September 10. In keeping with the ship’s
name, the cruise explores the birthplace of Celtic
culture visiting Cherbourg and Brest, Cobh (for Cork),
Pembroke in Wales and Falmouth in Cornwall as well
as Guernsey’s capital, St Peter Port.
As well as a range of ArtsClub themes on selected
