Cast Complete For Silversea's Star-Studded World Cruise
Silversea Cruises has taken the wraps off its entertainment roster for Silver Shadow's World Cruise 2007, revealing an eclectic array of international performers—from classical pianists and electric violinists to soulful cabaret singers—whose career journeys fittingly span the globe from the exhilarating Harrah's Las Vegas Hotel and Casino to Sydney's famed Opera House and New York's venerable Carnegie Hall.
Recently signed headliners include:
-- Multiple Grammy Award-nominee Michael Feinstein: This outstanding vocalist and pianist is arguably the single most knowledgeable and dedicated musical anthropologist and archivist the Great American Songbook has ever known. Renowned for finding "lost," older songs and breathing new life into them, his repertoire includes songs by such great songwriters as George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Johnny Mercer, and Duke Ellington. At his nightclub in Manhattan, Feinstein's at the Regency, a showcase for top-drawer cabaret performers, Feinstein plays to a sold-out crowd every year.
-- Clint Holmes. Or the past several years, this consummate "song and dance" man has been lighting up the Las Vegas strip with his dynamic range and interpretations of Broadway, opera, jazz and pop music. In 2002, Harrah's named their main showroom the Clint Holmes Theater, a rare honor received only by a handful of entertainers.
With a focus on classical concerts, cabaret and musical theater performances, Feinstein and Holmes will be joined by a cast of nearly 60 international artists making guest appearances on the World Cruise stage, including Peter Cousens, one of Australia's most outstanding musical theater performers, television actor, and recording artist whose performances have delighted audiences from London's West End to Sydney's Opera House; Katya Grineva, renowned for her romantic and poetic expression, this Russian pianist made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1998 and completed her 8th season at the world famous hall this year; Tian Jiang, recognized as one of the first virtuoso pianists to emerge from the People's Republic of China after the stark years of the Cultural Revolution; and electric violin duo Jason and Nolan Livesay, identical twins raised in Southern California who have composed music for CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Dreamworks, Paramount and Warner Brothers, and have appeared on the American Music Awards and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
On the enrichment side, the line has recently signed actress Karen Allen, co-star of the blockbuster movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, Peter Hillary, adventurer and son of Sir Edmund Hillary, and David Garrard Lowe, renowned cultural historian and author, to join an impressive roster of over 30 guest lecturers including legendary newsman Walter Cronkite, influential political commentator William F. Buckley, Jr., ABC News correspondent Lynn Sherr, author Richard Reeves, film critic Rex Reed, champion yachtsman John Bertrand, Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, photojournalist Steve McCurry and Michael Green, wine and spirits consultant for Gourmet magazine.
The company has also revealed plans for onboard theme events incorporating specially commissioned artwork, floral and architectural displays, and light and sound effects designed to create a magical entertainment experience that transports World Cruise guests to distant times and faraway lands without stepping off the ship. The fantasy events include "Impressions of Polynesia," a unique sensory experience timed to coincide with Valentine's Day and which will evoke all the passionate colors and impressions of Polynesia with a bold, artistic flair, and Pharaohs and Kings, which gives guests a chance to spend an evening surrounded by the art, culture and artifacts of ancient Egypt.
Departing January 15, 2007 from Fort Lauderdale, Silver Shadow's World Cruise will cross three oceans, seven seas and six continents, visiting 60 different ports, and conclude on the originating coast, in New York City, on May 22. Website: www.silversea.com

The World
It’s A Family Affair Aboard ‘The World’
American grandparents are going on more and more trips with their grandchildren.* But what if you could actually take Grandma’s house on vacation? The only private community at sea called The World is redefining what it means to make a trip to Grandma’s house.
Aboard this exclusive 12-deck vessel, inter-generational travel is all about exploration and adventure. The World is constantly discovering new destinations around the globe and will visit 37 countries in 2007. For families seeking time together, exotic ports and far flung locales can be easily experienced, all while staying in the comfort of a luxurious home aboard The World.
According to ResidenSea, the management company that operates this unique vessel, several resident-owners of this pioneering vacation community are bringing their grown children and their grandchildren aboard the vessel.
A number of aspects of travel on this residential ship make family stays aboard her ideal. First, a diverse offering of ports of call – the 2007 itinerary will include stops in Antarctica, the Canary Islands, Croatia, France, Lebanon and Sweden – means families can be flexible, and choose travel dates together to visit Grandma where the itinerary appeals the most. Plus, longer stays in each port (an average of 2.5 nights per port) means everyone will have time to explore a new city or destination their own way. Also, a wide array of land-based tours are arranged and offered in each stop, and families can alter between togetherness and separate tours.
Back at Grandma’s house aboard The World, families can reconvene in the comfort of their plush residential surroundings – which include spacious apartments ranging from 1,100-3,200 square feet, with airy living rooms and fully equipped kitchens – and take in luxurious amenities including a Clinique La Prairie Spa, four restaurants, an expansive fitness center, a golf simulator and the only Graff Jewelers at sea.
The unique ship offers 165 vacation homes aboard, many of which are also available for rent for minimum six night stays.
Suggested itineraries in 2007 which are ideal for inter-generational travel include:
-- A Taste of Kiwi Down Under: October 9-26, 2006: Dunedin, New Zealand to Auckland, New Zealand
