NCV Offers Special Savings To Mature Travelers On Norway’s Coast

Norwegian Coastal Voyage welcomes mature travelers on “the world’s most beautiful voyage” with special savings aboard 11 ships departing daily along the fjord-indented coast of Norway between Bergen and Kirkenes, above the Arctic Circle.  AARP member discounts of $70 to $150 per cabin year-round can be combined with senior savings for passengers age 67 and older of $95 to $170 per person except in June and July.  Solo seniors and those preferring not to share a cabin with a friend or relative can also save $279 to $981 between September 18 and December 31 when the single supplement is waived or reduced in select cabin categories.

An alternative to a traditional cruise, each NCV vessel is a unique combination of first-class cruise ship, a working ship carrying local passengers and cargo to 34 ports, and a lifeline to remote coastal towns and villages.  The voyage appeals to seasoned travelers who enjoy dramatic scenery, getting off the beaten track, an international mix of passengers and a casual lifestyle.  The stylish and comfortable 171- to 674-berth ships are floating galleries of contemporary Norwegian art.

AARP discounts are $70 per cabin on one-way and $100 on round-trip voyages applies to cruise-only bookings and increase to $100 one-way and $150 round trip on air-inclusive NCV Escorted and Independent Vacations.  NCV’s senior savings are $95 each for six-day southbound, $115 for seven-day northbound and $170 for 12-day sailings and packages.  The single supplement is reduced $302 to $981in six categories of outside and inside cabins from September 18 to 30; it is then eliminated in four cabin categories and reduced in two from October 1 to December 31, with savings of $279 to $903.

The 2005 cruise rates are $688 to $1,712 per person, double occupancy, for six-day, $838 to $2,086 for seven-day, and $1,250-$3,113 for 12-day voyages; suites cost $1,307 to $3,596, $1,592 to $4,381, and $2,375 to $6,538 respectively.  Rates include cabin category selected, meals, taxes, port charges and gratuities.  Passengers must provide proof of age—AARP membership number and a copy of the passport page with date of birth—to obtain the senior reductions.  Norwegian Coastal Voyage Inc. is at (800) 323-7436 or (212) 319-1300; fax (212) 319-1390; for brochures, (800) 666-2374, 24 hours a day; and www.norwegiancoastalvoyage.us.

NCV Independent Vacations Offer Air-Inclusive Packages To Scandinavia

NCV Independent Vacations are designed for independent travelers who prefer the flexibility of doing their own sightseeing and dining in major cities such as Oslo, Norway; Helsinki, Finland; and Reykjavik, Iceland, but appreciate the convenience and cost savings of air-inclusive cruise tours.  The centerpiece of the five packages offered is a six-day southbound, seven-day northbound or 12-day round-trip sailing along the scenic, 1,250-mile Norwegian coast visiting 34 ports between Bergen and Kirkenes, above the Arctic Circle.  All tours include the Oslo Pass and Bergen Card offering free and reduced admission to many museums and attractions as well as unlimited public transportation in those cities.  Packages cost $2,780 to $8,680 per person, double, and an AARP member discount of $100 to $150 per cabin is offered all year; after July 31 it can be combined with senior savings of $95 to $170 per guest 67 and older.  NCV also offers fully-escorted packages with similar itineraries.

The three all-Norway packages—12-day Highlights of Norway, $2,795 to $6,740; 13-day Norwegian Holiday, $2,780 to $6,190; and 17-day Grand Norway, $3,085 to $8,680—depart daily year-round while the two Scandinavian tours run through October 31.

The 14-day Scandinavian Sampler itinerary, priced at $3,080 to $7,040, offers two nights in Reykjavik, Iceland’s energetic capital, where optional excursions range from snowmobile safaris on glaciers and horseback riding to visits to national parks, spectacular geysers and geo-thermal hot springs.  The 15-day Scandinavian Sojourn, $3,130 to $6,420, includes two nights in Finland’s cosmopolitan capital, Helsinki, to explore neoclassical Senate Square and the expansive Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, and two nights in the Finnish Lapland region, where participants visit with a reindeer-herding Sami family and tour the SIIDA Sami and Nature Museum.

The cruise portion of each tour, set against a backdrop of majestic fjords and snow-capped mountains, takes in Alesund’s Art Nouveau architecture, the spectacular Geirangerfjord (April 15–September 11), the lively university town of Tromso, ancient Trondheim founded by first-century Vikings and the magnificent Lofoten Islands, which stretch like a wall of mountains off the coast.  On land, guests stay upwards of three nights in first-class hotels in Oslo, Norway’s 1,000-year-old capital, and Bergen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, transported between the two on the scenic Oslo-Bergen train journey, named one of the “Top 20 Rail Experiences in the World.”  Popular sights include Bergen’s Hanseatic wharf Bryggen, the Fish Market, the Troldhaugen home of composer Edvard Grieg, the Bergen Aquarium and Old Bergen and, in Oslo, hundreds of outdoor sculptures, the 700-year-old Akershus Castle and Fortress, the Viking Ship Museum, Nobel Peace Center and architecture ranging from medieval to postmodern.

Pre- or post-tour enhancement options provide a closer look at the Hardangerfjord, the Sognefjord, the Geirangerfjord, or Finnish Lapland, including riding the steep Flam Railway, seeing the Briksdal Glacier by horse and carriage or visiting Ailikas, the holy mountain of the Sami people near the Norway-Finland border.  These add-on packages cost $395 to $610, per person, double and include one or two hotel nights, some meals and most transportation and excursions, and are offered May to September, with extra hotel nights available throughout.

Independent Vacations include transatlantic flights from New York, intra-Scandinavia flights as indicated on itinerary, a coastal voyage, first-class hotels with buffet breakfast daily, one dinner in Bergen, Oslo airport transfers, air taxes, port charges, and the scenic Oslo-Bergen train trip, the Oslo Pass and Bergen Card.  Add-on air fares are available.

Ocean Village is popping the champagne corks this month as it celebrates its second birthday and unveils Winter 2005/06-Summer 06 brochure. To support its best-in-class status, the ship has just emerged from a birthday make-over with all cabins undergoing a complete restyle from top to bottom. Two of Princess' newest state-of-the-art vessels, Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess, will join Coral Princess and Island Princess for the 2006 Gulf of Alaska cruise and cruisetours season.  With the deployment of these ships on the Vancouver/Whittier itinerary, Princess' will again offer more seven-night Gulf of Alaska cruises than any other line. The four ships will sail on 71 voyages, and each of these cruises can be combined with one of 20 Alaska land tour options for a complete land and sea cruisetour. All Gulf of Alaska cruisetours feature Alaska's most sought-after natural attractions—Glacier Bay National Park, College Fjord and two nights at Denali National Park—and many offer Princess' exclusive Direct to the Wilderness train service, the most convenient way for passengers to travel to Princess' two Denali-area wilderness lodges.

Princess' signature Voyage of the Glaciers itinerary travels between Vancouver and Whittier with calls at Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, plus cruising through the spectacular scenery of College Fjord, the Inside Passage and Alaska's number one attraction, Glacier Bay National Park.

The 2006 season runs between May 13 and September 18, with 2,670-passenger sister ships Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess sailing on 35 cruises with alternating Saturday departures.  Returning 1,970-passenger sister ships Coral Princess and Island Princess will set sail 36 times, departing on Mondays for either a northbound or southbound cruise. Cruisetour Options
All Gulf of Alaska cruises can be combined with one of 20 land tours in Alaska or two tour options in the Canadian Rockies.   Passengers can choose from three- to eight-night land packages to create a comprehensive 10- to 15-night land/sea vacation.
Not only do all Princess Alaska tours offer at least two nights in the Denali National Park area, but passengers can travel directly to their Princess lodge from the ship with Princess' exclusive Direct to the Wilderness rail service. This industry first debuted this year and has trains waiting right at the Whittier cruise ship dock to offer passengers the only same day luxury rail service between the ship and Denali Park. Guests have the option of choosing to arrive at either of the two Denali-area Princess wilderness lodges, ensuring that they enjoy more time among the wilderness and wildlife they came to see.
Princess' Alaska cruisetours include accommodation at five of the state's most luxurious properties, with scenic riverside settings in some of the most desirable wilderness locations. The recently expanded Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge and Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge house Denali-area visitors, while the company's Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge and Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge are set, respectively, among the dramatic beauty of the Kenai Peninsula and Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge also offers quality accommodations in the heart of Alaska's interior with views of the Chena River.
Passengers can also choose from two deluxe escorted cruisetours through the Canadian Rockies featuring stays in several of the area's top quality hotels and featuring the services of a professional tour director.
