Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival Splendor To Operate Cruise Line’s First Ever South American Cruises
For the first time, Carnival Cruise Lines will operate voyages to South America with 14- to 18-day departures featuring extended visits to magnificent destinations in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile and Peru aboard the new 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor beginning in January 2009.
Carnival Splendor will operate three special South America departures in 2009—a 17-day, six-port cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Buenos Aires, Argentina, January 31 to February 17; a 14-day, six-port voyage from Buenos Aires to Santiago (Valparaiso), Chile, February 17 to March 3; and an 18-day, six-port South America/Mexican Riviera cruise from Santiago (Valparaiso) to San Francisco March 3-21.
Carnival Splendor will become the first Carnival Fun Ship to operate a South American itinerary when it embarks on a 17-day, six-port cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Buenos Aires January 31-February 17, 2009.  The voyage, which will sail across two hemispheres with the crossing of the equator, will feature visits to the tropical islands of Dominica and Barbados as well as day-long calls at four spectacular Brazilian ports—Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, each of which offers a rich history with architecture dating back to mid-16th century, along with gorgeous beaches, outstanding restaurants and shops, and unique cultural experiences.
-- Following this voyage, Carnival Splendor will sail on a 14-day, six-port Cape Horn/Strait of Magellan cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago (Valparaiso) February 17 to March 3, 2009.   The voyage begins with an overnight call in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital, then visits the charming cities of Montevideo, Uruguay; and Puerto Madryn, Argentina, followed by scenic cruising of historic Cape Horn – South America’s southernmost point. The voyage continues with a visit to Ushuaia, Argentina, a charming fishing village in the territory of Tierra del Fuego, home to unique sub-Antarctic forests; another day of scenic cruising of Cape Horn/Beagle Island, and a call at Punta Arenas, Chile, which lies at the entrance to the Straits of Magellan and is considered the gateway to Antarctica.  Highlighting this voyage is a day-long cruise of Chile’s majestic fjords and a visit to Puerto Montt, Chile, founded by German colonists in 1853 and boasting sparkling lakes and lush mountainous landscape.
-- Carnival Splendor will then operate an 18-day Andes, Peru and Mexican Riviera cruise from Santiago (Valparaiso) to San Francisco March 3 to 21, 2009.   Prior to crossing the equator, Carnival Splendor will visit Arica, Chile, nestled in the Andes Mountains and founded in 1570, with exquisite collections of pre-Columbian artifacts; Lima (Callao), Peru, whose historic city center was declared a Word Heritage Site by UNESCO; Manta (Quito), Ecuador, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1534 and featuring the Monastery and Church of San Francisco, one of the oldest religious structures in the New World.  The voyage concludes with visits to the popular destinations of Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Long Beach, Calif., before arriving in San Francisco.
The first in a new series, as well as the largest Carnival Cruise Lines ship ever constructed, Carnival Splendor will introduce an innovative new design and a host of guest-driven features highlighted by a luxurious 21,000-square-foot spa.  Adjacent to the elegant and modern facility will be 68 spa staterooms and suites, which will be accessible by a private elevator and offer exclusive privileges and amenities for guests.  Also featured within the spa will be the line’s first Thalassotherapy Pool covered by a glass dome, as well as an elaborate Thermal Suite, with four rooms offering varying degrees of warmth and coolness.
Other features include a 5,500-square-foot children’s play area – the largest in the “Fun Ship” fleet – as well as a water spray park and a mid-ship pool covered by a sliding Sky Dome. The line’s signature amenities such as cell phone and Wi-Fi service, a reservations-only supper club and the Carnival Seaside Theatre – a massive LED screen displaying movies, concerts and other programming – will also be featured.
Prior to its new South America program, Carnival Splendor will launch the line’s first-ever Northern Europe cruise program from London (Dover) July 13, 2008, followed by a series of voyages to the Mediterranean and Greek Isles through October 17, 2008.
Carnival Splendor will then sail on a transatlantic voyage from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Fort Lauderdale, positioning the vessel for a series of seven-day Caribbean cruises from that port beginning November 22, 2008.  The ship will then sail on the three South America voyages, then reposition to Long Beach to launch year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises beginning March 29, 2009, continuing the line’s expansion of its West Coast operations.
Carnival now acceptsreservations for Carnival Splendor’s new 14-, 17- and 18-day South America cruises. Prices for the 14-day cruise start at $1,399, the 17-day voyage $1,199, and the 18-day sailing $1,099 per person, based on double occupancy.  Special rates for third and fourth guests sailing in the same stateroom, along with round-trip air supplements from a number of North American gateways are also available.
For additional information and reservations, call 1-800-327-9501 (individual) or 1-800-327-5782 (groups) or visit the line's travel agent Internet portal, www.bookccl.com.

Carnival Cruises To The ‘Seven Wonders Of The Caribbean’
The recent announcement of the selection of the new Seven Wonders of the World has generated much controversy and commentary. But there’s little doubt that Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Seven Wonders of the Caribbean” capture the very best of the region’s unique historical, natural and cultural offerings. “While seeing the Seven Wonders of the World may be out of reach for many vacationers, Carnival provides fantastic and affordable journeys to the Seven Wonders of the Caribbean, which is the world’s most popular cruise destination,” said Terry Thornton, Carnival’s vice president of marketing planning.
The Seven Wonders of the Caribbean featured on Carnival's shore excursions include Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, El Morro Castle in San Juan, the Mayan ruins of Tulum, Trunk Bay Beach in St. John, the Panama Canal and The Baths in Virgin Gorda.
-- Chichen Itza—Not only is Chichen-Itza one of Carnival’s Seven Wonders of the Caribbean, it also made the official list of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Chichen-Itza was a sacred city of the Itza, and the archaeological site is rated among the most important of the Maya culture. Chichen-Itza covers an area of approximately six square miles, and hundreds of buildings once stood on the sacred grounds. Possibly the best known structure on the site is Kukulkan's Pyramid — a square-based, stepped pyramid that is 75 feet tall. The tour to Chichen-Itza is offered on all of Carnival’s cruises that visit Progreso and Cozumel, Mexico.
--Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System—The longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest barrier reef in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System stretches from the southern half of the Yucatan Peninsula to the Bay Islands of Honduras. A diver's paradise, it is known for fascinating coral formations, abundant sea life and extraordinary water clarity. Guests have the opportunity to dive and snorkel on the reef on Carnival’s cruises that call at Roatan, Honduras, and Belize.
--El Morro Castle—Fort San Felipe del Morro (a.k.a.El Morro Castle) is a 16th-century citadel that lies on the northwestern-most point of the islet of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Construction at El Morro started in 1539, and many additional new structures were added over the next 400 years. The fort was designed to guard the entrance to San Juan Bay and defend the city from enemies. In 1983, the fort was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations. Guests can visit El Morro Castle on Carnival cruises that depart from or visit San Juan, Puerto Rico.
--Tulum is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city serving as a major port for Cobá, and it appears to have been an important site for the worship of the Descending God. While an inscription dated 564 has been found at the site, most of the structures now visible were built between 1200 and 1450. The city remained occupied through the early years of the Spanish conquest of Yucatan, but was abandoned by the end of the 16th century. Tulum can be visited on Carnival’s calls to Calica and Cozumel, Mexico.

-- Trunk Bay Beach—With powdery white sand and a border of coconut palm trees, Trunk Bay Beach on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is renowned as one of the most beautiful and photogenic beaches in the world. A highlight for Trunk Bay visitors is the 650 feet of underwater snorkel trails through the turquoise waters that exhibit a variety of marine life. Guests on cruises that call at St. Thomas have an opportunity to visit St. John’s Trunk Bay.
-- Panama Canal—Cutting through the heart of Central America, the man-made Panama Canal opened in 1914, shaving some 9,000 miles from the trip around Cape Horn. Today, the engineering marvel continues to connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. A series of locks raise and lower each ship, making the transit possible. On cruises that call at Colon, Panama, guests can fish in Gatun Lake, go kayaking or take a ferry transit of the canal.
-- The Baths—For snorkelers, sunbathers and explorers alike, The Baths in Virgin Gorda represent the perfect natural attraction. The Baths is a small beach framed by giant boulders that visitors climb through to get to a boulder-harbor. With hidden rooms filled with streams of light, coral ledges and caves, white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water, many say it’s the best reason to visit Virgin Gorda.  Cruises that call at Tortola, B.V.I., offer the opportunity to see The Baths.
Several more destinations in the region included on Carnival’s cruise itineraries that deserve honorable mentions are:
El Yunque Rainforest—El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the United States. The intrigue of visiting the El Yunque Rainforest is only partly in the observation of the varieties of plants that have managed to grow and adapt to the abundant amounts of year-round rainfall. El Yunque can be visited from the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
-- The Basilica at Higuey—The Higuey Basilica located near La Romana, Dominican Republic is the center of religious activity in the area and one of the Caribbean's finest examples of modern religious architecture. The Basilica was named a national monument by the Dominican government and declared a minor basilica by Pope Paul IV. To highlight the architecture, a lighting scheme was completed in September 2002 that bathes the gray concrete in bright color from sunset to midnight.
-- Chacchoben Mayan Ruins—The first human inhabitants of the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins date back as far as 1000 B.C., though evidence found during excavation show that most of the ruins there now date back to around 360 A.D. The city remained continuously inhabited until its decline around 700 B.C. Eventually it was abandoned and reclaimed by the lush jungle, keeping its mysteries a secret. Guests can visit the ruins on cruises that call at Costa Maya, Mexico.

Holland America Line

HAL’s ‘ms Eurodam’ Joins ‘ms Maasdam’ For 2008 Canada/New England Cruises
Holland America Line's newest ship, the Signature-class ms Eurodam, makes her North American debut sailing Canada and New England cruises in 2008 and also introducing Quebec City as the line's new homeport. The 2,104-guest vessel and the ms Maasdam together will offer a total of 21 cruises ranging from seven- to 14-days between May and October.
The Eurodam will feature ten-day cruises between New York and Quebec City in the autumn following its launch in Europe in June. The elegant new ship will also offer a 14-day cruise from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale, calling at the new port of Corner Brook, Newfoundland.
Maasdam Offers More Seven-Day, Boston-Montreal Sailings
The Maasdam complements the Eurodam's longer cruises with 14 seven-day sailings between Boston and Montreal—two more than in 2007. These cruises depart from May 17 to September 27, 2008, offering spring, summer and fall choices.
The itineraries of both the Maasdam and Eurodam highlight the remarkable combination of history, culture and scenic beauty in Canada and New England. Guests can explore four centuries of history and French traditions in Quebec City, watch for Beluga whales in the magnificent Saguenay Fjord, bicycle in Acadia National Park, and savor New England's heritage of landmark lighthouses and fishing villages.
The Maasdam's seven-day cruises sail between Boston and Montreal and call at Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Quebec City for a full day, and Saguenay Fjord. At each port, guests can opt for shore excursions such as touring Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor by bike or carriage, exploring the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse Route near Halifax and taking the popular Anne of Green Gables tour in Charlottetown. Cruise fares start at US$1,099 per person, double occupancy.
The Maasdam also offers a seven-day, roundtrip departure from Boston on August 9 that sails a different itinerary highlighting the Northeast Atlantic sea coast. Guests visit Portland, Maine; Saint John, New Brunswick; Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; and Bar Harbor, Maine. Cruise fares start at US$1,299 per person.
At season's beginning (May 4) and end (Oct. 4), the Maasdam departs on either a 13- or ten-day cruise between Montreal and Ft. Lauderdale. The ship calls at Quebec City, Charlottetown, Halifax, Sydney and Bar Harbor on both cruises and adds Charleston, South Carolina; New London, Connecticut; and Newport, Rhode Island on the longer itinerary. Cruise fares start at US$1,549 per person.
Eurodam Features Four Fall Foliage Cruises & New Newfoundland Port
The Eurodam offers three ten-day cruises between New York and Quebec City departing September 1, 11 and 21. Sailing during the glorious fall color season, the new ship calls at Newport, Rhode Island, Boston, Bar Harbor, Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown and Quebec City; here guests enjoy a full day and overnight stay. Cruise fares start at US$1,799 per person.
On October 1 the Eurodam sails a special 14-day itinerary from Quebec City to Ft. Lauderdale, highlighted by the new port of Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Here the intriguing heritage of the Maritime Archaic Indians, Beothuk people, Vikings, Basque whalers and European explorers combine with the stunning scenery to fascinate visitors.
After scenic cruising of the Saguenay Fjord and Gulf of St. Lawrence, Corner Brook is the first port of call, followed by Charlottetown, Sydney, St. John, Bar Harbor, Boston, Newport and New York before two days at sea and arrival in Ft. Lauderdale. Cruise fares start at US$2,299 per person.
On all of Holland America Line's Canada and New England cruises, a wide variety of shore excursions offer hundreds of optional tours ranging from soft adventure to culinary experiences. Medallion excursions provide unparalleled access to events and sights not otherwise available. For example, guests can experience a day in the life of a British redcoat at the Halifax Citadel, sail Nova Scotia's Bras d'Or Lake or enjoy a private luncheon at one of Bar Harbor's most elegant Victorian summer "cottages."
Holland America Line offers pre- and post-cruise hotel reservations in Boston, New York, Montreal, Quebec City and Fort Lauderdale for those wishing to extend their vacation in these exciting cities. It also features a one- night New York/Ellis Island hotel/vacation package and a three-night Montreal/Montebello/Ottawa package. Holland America Line Features New Itineraries for 2008/2009 Caribbean Cruises
In the next two years, Holland America Line plans its most diverse offering of Caribbean cruise options with new ports, back-to-back itineraries, and the introduction of its newest ship, ms Eurodam, in late 2008. Holland America Line has increased its presence in the region due primarily to the addition of the new 2,104-passenger Eurodam and has planned more 10-day and longer journeys along with some gateway changes to introduce in-depth itineraries.
Beginning in 2008, Holland America Line also will embark on a full season of a southern Caribbean itinerary that proved to be a popular change-of-pace to traditional eastern and western sailings. The seven-day roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale visits Aruba, Curacao and the premium line's private island experience of Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.
Holland America Line will have ten ships sailing the Caribbean in 2008 and through April 2009, offering 189 sailings. In 2008, ships depart from Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and New York; in 2009, gateways feature Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.
The Noordam, which will sail out of New York in 2008, moves to Ft Lauderdale to offer the popular Seafarer/Wayfarer itineraries.
Caribbean ships include three Vista-class ships—ms Noordam, ms Zuiderdam and ms Westerdam— and the ms Maasdam, ms Prinsendam, ms Rotterdam, ms Veendam, ms Volendam, ms Statendam, and ms Eurodam.
Cruises will range from three-day Bahamas getaways to exotic 14-day adventures in the Southern Caribbean, some including the Panama Canal or South American ports. Many sailings are designed as combination cruises; for example, guests can combine a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise with a seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailing to experience more of the region. Most cruises also plan a day at Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line's acclaimed private island. With its horseback riding and swimming excursion, guided AquaTrax watercraft tour, stingray adventure, and fun-filled family aqua park, Half Moon Cay continues to be the line's highest rated Caribbean port of call.
Cruise fares begin at $749 per person for a seven-day Eastern or Western Caribbean itinerary, $1,099 for a Sunfarer Caribbean/Panama Canal cruise, and $1,799 for a 14-day Southern Caribbean adventure. For more information, consult a travel agent, call 1-877-SAIL-HAL (877-724-5425) or visit http://www.hollandamerica.com.
