Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Levant to Sail Mediterranean, Black Seas

Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Levant will cruise the waters of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea from April 27 through Oct. 15. The ship is offering 20 mostly seven-night voyages visiting rarely visited ports in Greece and nine other countries -- France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine. Among the ports are the Greek island of Tinos, known as the “Lourdes of Greece,” where passengers will see the Panagia Evangelistria dating from 1820, the site of an annual pilgrimage celebrating the Dormition of the Virgin Mary; Siros, where visitors can explore two towns that rise around the port; Ano Syros, a 13th century Venetian settlement with narrow medieval streets; and Ermoupolis, which boasts restored, neo-classical buildings, 19th century mansions and palm-fringed platias.

Carrying 90 guests in 45 outside staterooms, the 330-foot Le Levant features two restaurants, a spacious lounge, several bars, a library, a swimming pool and a beauty and fitness area with sauna. The 4,300-square-foot Sun Deck provides ample room to take in the sea air and the sun. Aboard the yacht, guests dine on French cuisine, tasteful accommodations and a chic, yet informal atmosphere. The intimate size of Le Levant and a staff-to-guest ratio of 1:2 translate to very personalized service.

--Le Levant will kick off the season with a seven-night Nice-to-Venice cruise on April 27, visiting seven ports in three countries, including the islands of Corsica and Sicily, as well as two ports in Croatia. On May 4, the yacht sails from Venice to Athens, making stops at four ports on the Dalmatian Coast (Piran, Trogir, Dubrovnik and Kotor) before arriving at the Greek island of Corfu and transiting the Corinth Canal.

--Nineteen Greek Islands are featured on six Athens-Istanbul, six Istanbul-Athens and two Istanbul-Istanbul departures from May 11 into September. Three Black Sea cruises to and from Istanbul call at ports in Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine (June 1, July 14 and Sept. 9). Le Levant will also offer an eastern Mediterranean (Athens to Alexandria) cruise departing Oct. 7 and an Alexandria-Tunis cruise departing Oct. 15, sailing along the coast of northern Africa with stops in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia.

Ranging from 205 to 161 square feet, Le Levant’s staterooms are air conditioned with king size or twin beds, a desk, dressing table and marble and teak baths with showers and L’Occitane amenities. The staterooms have all the latest technology including flat-screen satellite TVs, DVD/CD players, satellite direct-dial telephone, Wi-Fi and mini bar.

Fares start at $3,820 per person, double, depending on the itinerary and stateroom. Currently, the line is offering the Ponant Bonus Fare of $2,674, per person, double. Cruise prices include all wine, beer, mineral water, soft drinks and specialty coffees served with meals. Compagnie du Ponant offers travel agent commissions ranging from 10 to 15 percent. Crystal Discounts March 31 Ten-Day Mexican Riviera Cruise From LA

Mexico has become the land of buried treasure as luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises announces dramatic discounts for its 1ten-day Mexican Riviera cruise sailing round trip from Los Angeles.  Departing March 31, the getaway offers new per person tiered rates at 30-45% less than previous fares:  $1995 for Deluxe Outside Staterooms with large windows, $2,995 for Verandah Staterooms, and $5,995 and $7,995 for its butler-serviced Penthouses and Penthouse Suites, respectively – plus $500 “All Inclusive – As You Wish” shipboard spending credits.

Long-Hidden Libya Spices Up Crystal’s 2011 Mediterranean Cruise Season

Crystal Cruises is removing the cloak of mystery surrounding Libya as a travel destination by adding its historic capital, Tripoli, to its fall season.   Libya’s doors have been closed to American tourists since the U.S. imposed sanctions on the country almost 20 years ago.  With Libyan authorities lifting its ban on tourist visas, Crystal has added Tripoli to its November 16 “Italian Splendor” Mediterranean cruise.

Augmenting an itinerary already steeped in wonders of antiquity and cultural immersion, the addition of Tripoli enables travelers to visit what some consider the last unspoiled country in North Africa.  Beginning and ending with overnights in Venice and Barcelona, the 11-day voyage also boasts visits to Dubrovnik and Sicily, Naples, Civitavecchia (for Rome), and Livorno (for Florence and Tuscany).

Guests can explore Libya’s largest city, Tripoli; see some of the best-preserved cities and archaeological relics in the world from Roman, Greek, Byzantine, Phoenician, and Arab-Islamic civilizations; mix with local and tribal ethnicities; feast on traditional cuisine; and sift through the sand of the Saharan desert, which covers roughly 90% of the country.

With so many educational opportunities for all ages on this Thanksgiving cruise, families can create once-in-a-lifetime memories -- and enjoy free berths, group perks and family savings via the “Crystal Family Memories Program.”

A “Two-for-One” promotion offers per person, double occupancy, fares starting at $5,470, including $1,000 “All Inclusive–As You Wish” shipboard spending credits and complimentary air transportation from many North American gateways (or cruise-only fare reduction).

New Pacific Coast Adventures Add Excitement To  Spring Sailings

Sip a local Pinot Noir while overlooking Sideways wine country.  Soar new heights in an XJ5 Flight Simulator.  Master the delicate art of filleting fresh salmon.  Crystal Cruises has set dozens of Crystal Adventures ashore for its spring voyages along the Pacific Coast--many of them brand new.  Designed to suit a broad range of interests, excursions explore the historical, culinary and outdoorsy culture of the area.

Departing April 10 and 17, the seven-day cruises sail between Los Angeles and Vancouver, calling in coastal cities in California, Oregon and British Columbia.

History buffs can step into the past by visiting Seattle’s underground ghost town or Lewis and Clark’s Ft. Clatsop in Astoria…or, step into the future at Boeing’s “Future of Flight Center” and airplane factory.

Gastronomes will be sated by Oregon wine tasting and a Northwest seafood cooking demonstration; wine tasting at private Santa Ynez wineries; a picturesque drive past evergreens and dunes to the Tillamook Cheese cooperative; and a guided walk-through of Seattle’s famous Pike Place food market—home of the original Starbucks.

Local nature enthusiasts can glimpse the environmental recovery at Mount St. Helens, or participate in an array of outdoor beach activities at Oregon’s Seaside and Cannon Beach communities—where local art and shopping also abound.

For sports fans, a behind-the-scenes tour of Safeco Field is a homerun, especially when followed by beer tasting at the Seattle Pyramid Alehouse and Brewery.

Crystal’s newest value proposition invites kids 17 and under to sail free on the two spring voyages when sailing in a third berth with two full-fare adults.  Promotional Two-for-One cruise fares start at $2,695 per person, and include $500 per person, “All Inclusive–As You Wish” shipboard spending credits and complimentary air transportation from 24 North American gateways.

Holland America’s ms Rotterdam to Make Two Trans-Atlantic Crossings in 2011

To commemorate Holland America Line's 40th anniversary of its evolution from traditional trans-Atlantic voyages to becoming entirely dedicated to vacation cruising, the premium line's ms Rotterdam is sailing two classic crossings in July 2011.

Rotterdam's nine-day trans-Atlantic sailing departs Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on July 3, 2011, and calls at the traditional crossing departure port of Southampton, England, before heading to New York. The July 12 trans-Atlantic departure returns to Rotterdam from New York over nine leisurely days with a call at Cobh (Cork), Ireland, another time-honored stop on crossings of the past. "Trans-Atlantic cruises were the foundation of Holland America Line for several decades, and there's still a strong desire from today's travelers who want to step back in time and relive the celebrated days of an elegant crossing or follow in the footsteps of their ancestors," said Richard D. Meadows, CTC, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. "We're proud to honor our heritage with these two special itineraries, replete with nostalgia-themed menus, entertainment and a host of surprises and keepsakes."

The trans-Atlantic journeys will offer enriching activities, guest lecturers and chefs, complimentary mementos and opportunities to celebrate the line's 138-year heritage. In addition, a bon voyage sail away party, captain's gala party, special entertainers and events ensure that both itineraries will create recollections to last a lifetime. Guests seeking to discover more about the company's history can visit the Crow's Nest, which will be set up as a "Museum at Sea" during both crossings, or attend a lecture by a renowned maritime historian.

Bill Miller, considered an international authority on the subject of ocean liners and cruise ships, will be on board both sailings as a guest lecturer. Called "Mr. Ocean Liner," he has written more than 65 books on the subject — from early steamers and immigrant ships to liners at war.

Skjaergaarden, the tiny islands near Lilles and show off incredible summer homes belonging to Norway’s wealthiest.

During the voyage SeaDream will dock in the center of Oslo, Norway’s capital. The city is a blend of the country’s old culture and traditions with today’s modern Norwegian lifestyle. Space is available with rates starting as low as $7,099 per person plus fees. SeaDream Yacht Club’s inclusive pricing includes ocean view accommodations, gourmet meals, wine with lunch and dinner, open bar with selected premium brands, gratuities, use of mountain bikes and more.

SeaDream Yachting Through Four Countries In Ten Days

SeaDream Yacht Club takes an exciting ten-day Mediterranean voyage through four countries this May. Embark SeaDream II, the intimate, 112-guest mega-yacht in Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy on May 18th and set off for the southern tip of the island of Corsica, France spending an overnight in Bonifacio. Stroll the cobblestone streets and discover the medieval old town perched spectacularly atop cliffs. The voyage continues on to nearby Sardinia, Italy with the harbor of Porto Rotondo playing host to SeaDream and other beautiful yachts belonging to the international jet set.

Following Sardinia, the voyage calls on Sicily, Italy. Here the port of Trapani is the gateway to numerous historic, gastronomic and natural attractions. Guests have access to explore beautiful medieval towns including Erice. The third country on this adventure is Tunisia where SeaDream II docks in La Goulette; the port of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. A walk through the Souk is a feast for the senses with spices, perfumes, jewels and carpet weavers.

The fourth country of call is Malta and it’s port of Valletta; Malta’s capital and a World Heritage site. It’s nothing short of an open-air museum. Valletta is often described as the most beautiful harbor in the Mediterranean.

Next, spend a day in Syracuse, Sicily where guests have the unique opportunity to visit an active wine farm belonging to Baron Pietro Beneventano del Bosco. Delve into the rich sampling of homemade Sicilian specialties provided by the Baron. The yacht sails the Aeolian Islands which are a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea. SeaDream stops at Lipari, an island known for its beautiful beaches and mild climate. Sailing by the island of Stromboli, view the activity from its three live volcanoes.

A trip to Italy’s coast is not complete without visiting Amalfi and Capri, the last two calls of this voyage. Amalfi is noted for its peaceful beaches, historic resorts and succulent lemons. Nearby, Capri is an island of lush vegetation atop rocks, amid the deep blue sea. The two towns, Capri and Anacapri are separated by curving, twisting roads making for fun ride in a convertible car arranged by SeaDream. This Voyage, #21125 concludes in Civitavecchia (Rome) on May 28th.

SeaDream Yacht Club Announces Its 2012 Deployment Of Its Ships

SeaDream Yacht Club announced its complete 2012 itinerary, which is now available for bookings. The twin deluxe, mega yachts SeaDream I & II will spend early 2012 sailing the Caribbean with an emphasis on visiting the smaller yachting playgrounds and harbors that large ships cannot reach. In addition, SeaDream II will be adding two, 20-day voyages to the Amazon in February 2012. SeaDream’s debut in the Baltic in 2011 had swift bookings reflecting an appetite for the region. That led to SeaDream II sailing the Baltic in 2012 with the addition of new ports including:

Dover, England: Being used as a turn-round port. Located on the English Channel, Dover is easily accessible from London.

Skagen, Denmark: A popular summer resort and artist colony located at the northern-most point of Denmark.

Harlingen, Netherlands: A charming Dutch town founded in 1234.

Brugge, Belgium: One of Belgium’s most historic cities where SeaDream’s small size allows her to navigate up the canal into the city.

Sylt Island, Germany:  Germany’s fashionable summer retreat on the North Sea.

The Mediterranean is traditionally a popular region for summer yachting and SeaDream Yacht Club’s 2012 itinerary features more of the magnificent Mediterranean. There are also find several new, unique options such as an 11-day Black Sea voyage sailing round-trip from Istanbul on September 11, 2012. "Our Silver Perspectives enrichment program offers travelers interesting journeys hosted by noted historians, political analysts, bestselling authors and other esteemed experts," said Steve Tucker, Silversea's vice president of field sales for North America. And Silversea culinary trainer David Bilsland will host the Relais & Châteaux L'École des Chefs cooking school.
