Royal Caribbean’s ‘Majesty Of The Seas’ Gets A New Look

In February Royal Caribbean International’s 73,941-ton Majesty of the Seas returned home to south Florida after undergoing an extensive bow-to-stern renovation at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport. Nearly 2,000 shipyard workers and ship’s crew completed an amazing revitalization of the ship in just 28 days time that just about sets a record for a ship overhaul. Onboard ship-wide enhancements included a complete redoing of the guest suites and staterooms, revamping the casual dining areas, and upgrading and refurbishing the main dining rooms. The Majesty Day Spa and ShipShape Fitness Center, the Adventure Ocean youth area were also redone and a teen-focused Fuel Nightclub and Living Room lounge were added. Conference rooms, the pool deck, the theater and Casino Royale also received a new look. In addition, the Viking Crown Lounge, Centrum shops’ façades and other primary public areas were spruced up.

The Centrum

Majesty has carried the Royal Caribbean emblem since 1992 when she made her debut and she is the third ship in the Sovereign class to be refurbished—following the facelifts of  her sisters Monarch of the Seas in 2003 and Sovereign of the Seas in 2004. So it was only a matter of when the vessel would be upgraded for her  year-round short cruises out of Miami. “We consistently see an attraction towards shorter trips as the perfect weekend getaway or for corporate incentive travel, so it’s natural to ensure that our ships consistently offer guests what they have come to expect from us – high standards for innovation and a quality product,” said Lisa Bauer, senior vice president, sales for Royal Caribbean International.  “The revitalized Majesty provides convenient and enjoyable three- and four-night escapes in the most contemporary setting, albeit for business or pleasure.”

Dining upgrades…..         .
In the culinary areas, Majesty now offers a myriad of new dining options, including a new casual dining concept, the Windjammer Marketplace, which builds on the line’s

Windjammer Marketplace

Windjammer Café concept—serving a varied selection of Asian, Latin, Mediterranean and American dishes in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. New to the Royal Caribbean brand is the Compass Deli, which features a lavish sandwich bar, daily soups, made-to-order salads, paninis, crepes and energy drinks.
Guests also can choose from Sorrento’s Italian pizzeria or Johnny Rockets offering guests all-American favorites including hamburgers and milk shakes.
Also new on Majesty is the addition of the cruise line’s signature Café Latté-tudes—the popular coffee bar on board RCI ships—serving Seattle’s Best Coffee® beverages and

delicious ice creams in the adjoining Freeze ice cream parlor.
The two main dining rooms—now renamed Starlight and Moonlight—got a makeover

with new furnishings and lighting as well as redesigned menus.

The Spa and fitness…..
The expanded Majesty Day Spa and ShipShape Fitness Center was relocated one deck

lower, to the space previously occupied by the On Your Toes Nightclub and Adventure Ocean venues for youths. The new spa features ten new treatment rooms, a relaxation area, and the Beauty Salon—now fully equipped with a barber station, two experienced hair stylists, manicure and pedicure stations, and a teeth-whitening room.
Exclusive to Majesty of the Seas is the introduction of the virtual Elemis® SpaBar where through interactive technology, guests have access to the dos and don’ts for all skin types, as well as tips and recommended beauty products available for purchase onboard.
Fitness buffs can now take wellness to the next level in the ShipShape Fitness Center adjacent to the Spa where the newest workout equipment was installed and a new aerobic floor added to accommodate upbeat spinning and fitness classes.

The public facilities…
The ship’s new entertainment scene warrants a shout-out as well.  “Signed, Sealed and Delivered,” Royal Caribbean’s newest theater production brings to life the soul, rhythm and blues of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Tina Turner, among others in the two-level show lounge.
And the dancing continues with the addition of the line’s signature Latin bar Boleros, located at the forward end of the ship, serving up mojitos and caipirhinas in a design-savvy space.

Boleros

The popular Schooner piano bar received an upgraded décor with new carpeting, chair upholstery and window coverings installed. Majesty’s Casino Royale also got a new look with new furnishings complimenting a completely refurbished bar and the latest in gaming equipment.
A new modernized conference center is in place and which offers state-of-the-art technology to enable business seminars or conferences to take place during the ship’s three- or four-day cruises. The new multi-media system covers all audio/visual needs and attendees will be able to meet in the comfort of new, softer furnishings.
The younger set got revitalized play areas. The Adventure Ocean youth center now has a

more colorful and lighter look to it. And teenagers now have their own exclusive areas with the new ultra-hip Fuel Nightclub and a hangout lounge decorated in vibrant colors.

Living Room

Named the Living Room, it is located high up on the Sports Deck and provides a cool hideaway for teens.

Stateroom and Suite enhancements…
To enhance both the recreation and business-travel stateroom experience, the staterooms and suites were literally rebuilt with new wall linings, cabinetry, fixtures, and fittings. Flat panel televisions were installed along with WiFi access long with new mirrors, wood trims and decorative rails. Similarly, bathrooms were refitted with new basins and fixtures.

Outside stateroom

The fleet-wide roll out of the enhanced bedding program which debuted on Freedom of the Seas, was evident on Majesty as staterooms were all fitted with new mattress frames designed to prevent sagging upon which nine-inch-thick spring mattresses with separate two-inch-thick micro-fiber pillow tops that unfold to lay on top of one another to create a queen-size, gap-free mattress. Bed dressings include 220-thread-count long-staple cotton-blend sheets; two micro-fiber pillows, plus one decorative pillow; duvets with cotton-blend covers; bed skirts; and colored bed scarves at the end of the beds to protect the duvet.
