Water-Sports Activities & Fishing

Bermuda’s aquamarine waters beckon

Water Sports: Bermuda lies smack in the middle of the Gulf Stream and that is why many of the marine species are those that would normally be found in Caribbean waters. Bermudian waters are home to at least 4,500 species of marine organisms—from algae and sea fans to Barracuda and Humpback whales as well as over 650 species of fishes in its crystal clear waters. For a listing of where to go for your water activities—parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing and kayaking—visit the Bermuda tourism website: http://www.bermudatourism.com and click What To Do

Shore, Reef & Deep-Sea Fishing: April to November is Bermuda’s prime big-game fishing season although in the off-season (December to March), there is still good fishing. Licensed charter boat operators offer fully-inspected boats and state-of-the-art equipment. Rates are approximately BM$600 per boat for a half-day (four hours), and BM$850 per full day (eight hours). Rates fluctuate slightly from season to season, due to fluctuation in fuel prices. Charter rates may be obtained by contacting any of the charter booking services or the individual captains directly.
All fishing charters are skippered by licensed captains and are equipped with fighting chairs and outriggers. Top-class tackle and bait plus communication and life-saving equipment are all included in your charter price. Participants supply their own lunch and refreshments; vessels include toilet facilities. Some suggested charter companies can be found on the Bermuda tourism website: http://www.bermudatourism.com/168.aspx

Note: All the above activities are listed in This Week in Bermuda available at the airport arrivals desk, Visitors Service Bureaus, hotels, and dining establishments. The Excursions Desk of most cruise ships should also have the local guides, which are also available at the Cruise Terminal.
